Ok... Most of the genres and stereotypes out there are to make people feel individual, right? So people know who they are as their own person? So why complain that everyone doesn't share your own INDIVIDUAL taste in music? People are different, I'm sure whoever started this thread would rather be seen as an individual, so act like one. Don't get arrogant because other

there is good music out there, past or present. i say good music is anything that can stand the test of time, as many of the groups you mentioned have. there are also those you have listed that continue to put out great music, i.e. APC, social d, sonic youth (sonic nurse, their new one, is great).
alot of people will disagree with you on this desired "new movement of rock" many people i know (including myself) are pleased to see any rock in the mainstream when compared to the overwhelming surge of hiphop which has crossed all boundaries of gender, age, and ethnicity.
besides, ppl should listen to whatever they want, regardless of popularity.
i pretty much have to aggree with everything this guy is saying. your kinda jumping the gun..
think about it this way.. you interview a classroom for their opinions on grass.. or you interview the whole school.. which do you think is more accurate..
also
i must say, you gave examples of punk bands, emo, etc.. then you say you want a rock movement..
must ask why.. wtf is wrong with rock. with all music genres there are bands that sound alike, but compare rock to punk???? then come back and tell me that rock needs a movement.
to tell you the truth, the only rock bands i can think of taht sound the same are Theory of a Deadman and Nickelback. Most rock is original, and again i gotta state that you are always going to have certain songs sound similar, or certain guitar parts have a similar beat or sound.. this is always going to happen.
last thing, seriously think about moving your first post into the Punk forum, cause it would prolly work there. to me all of todays top 10 punk bands sound the same. simple plan, sum 41, all those i get confused all the time

i agree they dont make music like they used too. but thats a good thing. we have more variety of styles to listen too. if you dont like, your obviously not going to listen to it, but i dont see the point in bitching about it. but there are good bands coming out now and newer bands that are good. i cannot see the point in hoping for salvation through bands such as the white stripes or the strokes. but thats a personal opinion so i guess it holds no truth to anyone else. now im rambling. damn coffee. there are good new bands out there, theres a ****load of excellent older bands out there.
what a waste of time this was

Am I the only person to have noticed that the only reason the truly great old bands are remembered is because they were truly great? The 60's wasn't just the Beatles and the Kinks and the Stones making records, for every truly great band in an era there are 50 that suck and who don't get remembered.

In thirty years time on a messageboard of the future, this exact same thread will come out, and a lot of the bands that are popular today will have fallen completely by the wayside, and our children will never know who they were.

Alot of bands that are popular today, I don't even know who they are. I don't like too much of what is really popular today. If my children never listened to today's music, I probably wouldn't care. That's what you were saying right? I agree there are some truly great older bands.
