Top 5 Greatest Frontmen of All-Time
Who do you think are the greatest frontmen of all-time.
Here is my list: 5. Ozzy Osbourne 4. Rob Halford 3. Alice Cooper 2. Steven Tyler 1. Paul Stanley |
1. Jimmy Page (he was the true frontman of Led Zeppelin)
2. Frank Zappa 3. Jello Biafra (Dead Kennedys) 4. Ian Anderson (Jethro Tull) 5. Jim Morrison (The Doors) Very mainstream, but to be a good frontman you do need a larger than life image, a way with the media and to be iconic. imho anyways. |
Bruce ****inson belongs on anyone's list. Great frontman.
Hahahaha it was censored. |
There's a differance between being a great frontman and making great music. Being a frontman entails a lot more then just singing and occasionaly strumming a guitar. They have to be the bands mascot. Take Chris Martin and Chad Kroeger for example. Yes, i think their music is terrible, but I respect both of them as a frontman for getting their bands music out there. I mean no one knows who the other members of Coldplay and Nickelback are, but they still listen to the music and it's because of the frontmen.
Going about it that way my list would be like this: 5.Chris Martin 4.Brandon Flowers 3.Paul Stanley 2.Morrisey 1.Dave Grohl I'm not really a fan of three of those, but I respect them as frontmen in the sense that I stated. |
anyone who's list isn't topped by either James Brown or Chuck Berry is a complete fucking idiot.

Don't get me wrong, back in the 50's and 60's he was probably crazy for his time, but nowadays he just looks boring. James Brown is a great frontman, I concur. |
Brown / Jagger / Clinton / Lydon / Smith

No order:

seriously, maiden may be a child's play, but he is a great frontman. full of energy, power and a few great screams |

Dac, frontman does not mean singer, the jobs are different. The frontman's goal is to get the crowd riled, which is why people like Iggy Pop and James Brown are great frontmen. |

2. Have you ever seen Thom Yorke on stage? He's quite the dancer. |

1. Bruce Dickinson - Iron Maiden
2. Prince - Solo/N.P.G etc (he can sing, dance, play guitar and drums in one show and hold the audience) 3. Jim Morrison - The Doors 4. Johnny Lydon - Sex Pistols/P.I.L 5. Iggy Pop |

Fanboyism aside, if people are going to attack the people on my list for getting the crowd 'riled' or what not then Thom is the LAST person from my list you should be attacking. |
Can't really be bothered to put them in order...
Mick Jagger Iggy Pop Peter Garret David Bowie John Lydon Quote:

If this thread isn't restricted to rock music, I think James Brown is the clear winner.

this are not my top 5 but:
I really think Brandon Flowers makes a good frontman. ok he now sports a stupid fur, but he gives some great performances and he always get's the crowd going, especially when the perform "All this things that I've done" and "When you were young" Also Morrissey is great. haven't exactly seen a whole concert, but from what I've seen from him performing on tv and from the video of "That's how people grow up" his fans worship him. Axl Rose was great with the original GN'R, and I don't think anybody can argue with that. Now he looks like a 1994 Dexter Holland. Steven Tyler is also pretty cool when on stage, even though I don't really like Aerosmith. As for the best ever, in my opinion Robert Plant. He was in a league of his own. Now he looks like an old-man in tight jeans, but he still has some of that flair. The worst: David Coverdale...I've seen Whitesnake live last month (I had free tickets:o:), and that old-full is actually lip-synching. |

well he was lip-synching here in Cyprus. we are a country of 750000 people and 10000 of them showed up at his concert. and he was lip-synching. and for that I hate him.

Bruce Dickinson
Morrissey Damo Suzuki Bowie Joe Strummer This is rock/metal, so I'm omitting James Brown and Herbie Hancock. Bruce Dickinson in my eyes is the quintessential frontman... THE metal vocalist and an energetic showman. Not to mention a pilot, author, fencer and historian... Here, have a video of him running around with the Union Jack during the Trooper. |

Jim Morrison, Axl Rose
1. Bruce ****inson 2. Bon Scott 3. Alice Cooper 4. Jim Morrison 5. Axl Rose |
Quote:
- Robert Plant: His voice makes Led Zeppelin. Fantastic examples include Kashmir, Whole Lotta Love, and Rock and Roll. - Ian Curtis: If he just performed @ one show in the states, it would have changed this iconic band forever...and for all we know, we might have never heard of a band called New Order. - Freddy Mercury: Do you honestly think anyone else could have pulled off the following songs in quite the same way? Bohemian Rhapsody, We are the Champions, You're My Best Friend, Stone Cold Crazy - Thom Yorke: I like him and I am a big fan of Radiohead, but I can't put him in the same league Instead I'm putting the following 2... - Jim Morrison: His charisma alone made The Doors soar into the upper echelon of popularity. They were considered the "dark horse" in an era of free love and Age of Aquarius. Songs like The End, When The Music's Over, and Riders on the Storm: My Lord he was amazing! - David Gilmour: The Dark Side of the Moon. Need I say more? :dj: |
