If you want good solo's from JF go to his solo records.

Definatly his solo work is excellent one of the best guitarists out there, though i think his vocals vork better as harmonies than main.

This looks like the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

It's hard to pick a favorite Yes solo. I think it's gotta be either that build up at the end of Trooper, that amazingly weird pedal steel solo from GFTO that sounds like a theremin or that crazy hoedown throwdown from Sound Chaser.

But a minor correction, it's called Return of the Giant Hogweed. Awesome song though. It's probably the closest thing to a "rock" song Genesis ever did.

Really? Iv grown to love his voice. Songs like Carvel, Omission, Wednesdays Song (all of Shadow Collide With People) are great example of this. I mean the guy has a ****ing range twice as big as most female singers. Of coarse I respect your opinion also ;) (A little more so because of your avatar)

Not to really bash him, but I found him to be just mediocre.

For now, just in the context of the two guitar solos I mentioned (Serve The Servants and In Bloom, and there are 2 or 3 others), my interest is in the way he snuck atonal skronk at earshattering volume onto top-40 radio.

boo boo 05-21-2009 10:53 AM

Yeah exactly.

I agree... But the clothes, eh, not so much. =)

VERNON REID's solo work or with Masque has been unbelievably good for the most part... I think I'll go listen to some when Jimi At Winterland is over!

Bulldog 05-21-2009 01:55 PM

Another one of my favourites (besides the one I posted a few pages back) would be Jeff Baxter's solo in Steely Dan's Change Of the Guard. I'd post the video, but some killjoy's gone and taken it offline.

The Unfan 05-21-2009 02:29 PM

The acoustic one.

Oasisbobo 05-25-2009 10:38 AM

Oasis - Live Forever!

scottsy 05-25-2009 10:06 PM

I always found Steve Hackett's solo in Genesis' Firth of Fifth to be utterly compelling, moving and just lifts the whole song to new heights... amazingly good solo. Most of the solos he performs on The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway album are equally amazing too. Definitely a very underrated, very talented artist.

That_Dang_Richer 07-11-2009 09:33 PM

Greatest guitar solos

Some of the best guitar solos ive heard, are

Eruption-Van halen
Cliffs of Dover-Eric Johnson
Torn-Disturbed
Psycho-System of a down LIVE(because he extends the solo about 1minute when he play it live)
Stairway to heaven- Led zeppelin

any guitar solo you think sounds awesome

khfreek 07-11-2009 09:37 PM

Thread exists somewhere already

Maybe you should work on your list while searching for that thread.

The frist 2 minutes are amazing, then it gets kind of... meh.

mr dave 07-15-2009 01:31 AM

tops in my pile is still hendrix's 'bold as love'

his lead in run is unlike any of his other solos. then he forgoes his traditional blues based leads for melodic accompaniment to the main melody. twists it all around back to some bold blues for the false ending, and then... love.

someonecompletelyrandom 07-15-2009 12:37 PM

Ugh... gotta go with the real cliche here and say Stairway to Heaven. It's not even like the official version is that epic, but the one on the concert film blew me away.

crash_override 07-15-2009 12:44 PM

Gotta say 25 or 6 to 4 by Chicago. So clean and vibrant. Absolutely my favorite.

asshat 07-15-2009 12:44 PM

ditto for maggot brain, as well as anything else off maggot brain

smashing pumpkins-cherub rock(I don't like the smashing pumpkins but it has an awesome solo)
thin lizzy-romeo and the lonely girl/black rose/the emerald
ac/dc-riff raff

CaptainAwesome 08-03-2010 01:00 PM

In Flames - Come Clarity (although Clayman is still the best album)

Joe Satriani - Love Thing (because Satch Boogie and Surfing With The Alien don't show as much emotion, and are too predictable)

Queens Of The Stone Age - Little Sister (Josh Homme is underrated!)

Rise Against - Blood-red, White, and Blue (not exactly complicated or anything particularly original, but for some reason i think its awesome)

Tommy Emmanuel - Angelina (an instrumental acoustic piece that is just awesome. I suppose this isn't exactly what the thread is looking for, but **** it, this is awesome)

Zaqarbal 08-03-2010 07:48 PM

Look (or, better said, listen to) what these two Argies do:

  • Norberto «Pappo» Napolitano, band Pappo's Blues, song Caras en el parque (from min. 1:10 on).
  • Walter Giardino, band Rata Blanca, song Preludio obsesivo.

This.

Alfred 08-03-2010 09:34 PM

This is probably my all-time favorite guitar song and the solo (at 2:33) is eargasmic.

Raust 08-03-2010 09:50 PM

For some reason I really dig the solo in this song, very raw (starts at 1:40)

The solo in Time is pretty sweet to (starts at 3:30).

Halpert 08-04-2010 07:44 PM

Can it be bass guitars too? Well if it can then this

Sodacake 08-06-2010 01:07 PM

Mikael Akerfeldt's solo in The Grand Conjuration is amazing.

TheGame2k2 08-06-2010 07:31 PM

Always loved the solo in Ace of Spades by Motorhead

scottsy 08-07-2010 03:01 PM

That's a great solo and a good song... pity i just can't get into anything else by Motorhead... I guess it's just not my thing...

Try Orgasmatron or for an even more powerful version of the song, Sepultura`s version.

scottsy 08-07-2010 03:48 PM

hmmm, Sepultura covering that song? sounds very appealing indeed!!!
