Overkill seems to have unexpectedly eclipsed Ace of Spades as my favorite Motorhead album.

The Golden Grass, this album came out last year. By far my favorite modern rock.

I'm looking for new hard-rock recommendations. I'm not up-to-date on the newer rock, and I have a hard time finding a sound that I like. I'm trying to find bands that keep to more of a hard-rock sound than metal, and not indie.
Currently, my Pandora rock station is lackluster, which I think is probably due to the fact that I don't have enough station seeds to improve the algorithm. I need something other than just the hits from the bands I already like. Bands whose sound I'm looking for: Tantric Days of the New More grunge-oriented: Soundgarden Temple of the Dog Nirvana Mad Season hard rock/metal: Alice In Chains (more metal) Godsmack The only new hard rock that's been in the general area is Reignwolf. I'm more looking for newer acts (those formed in the last several years). If anyone wants to throw me recs, I'd appreciate it. |
I've only come across a very few bands that fit this, but I love how later Napalm Death and The Rotted (formerly Gorerotted) play a kind of death metal that's definitely DM, but has a sort of straightforward punk approach, but without being primitive punkified DM/death metalified hardcore punk like Extreme Noise Terror (Maybe someone with an understanding of musical theory would know better how to describe what I'm getting at).
They're relatively uncomplicated, often with a a grind influence, and have an intense immediacy to their brutality that's completely unlike bands like Suffocation and Cryptopsy. I guess you could describe it as pure death metal, but with a street level, punk mindset and approach that's influenced by a punk background. Would love some recommendations, as I really have only the two bands to get my fix. I know that's kind of a vague and possibly confusing set of criteria, but it's the best I can do. I'd love it if Jackhammer were around more, as he's a fan of both those groups, has an old school grind background from the more punk side of things, and would probably know immediately what I'm getting at. Anything ringing a bell? |
It's a long shot, but perhaps you'll like Black Breath:

Check out Scissorfight. They're more stoner metal but I'm a massive fan of grunge and I love them...
(Sorry, can't post URL's yet cos I'm new here) |
