2. Similar artists to Red Sparowes, God is an Astronaut

3. Something close to Agalloch "The White" Ep.

Thanks!

Unfan, act of god seems ok; but what the hell's up with the vocalist? The guitar riff is pretty damn cool but the singe sounds like itshould be in sydney opra house.

Try out Earthless - Sonic Prayer (the album, not the song, which is on a different album). Specifically, get "Flower Travellin' Man." It's completely shred-tastic.

S_Shinji 07-06-2009 05:56 PM

I feel like listening to something grungy and raw sounding kind of like Bleach by Nirvana. Nothing by the main grunge artists though, I have all of that.

Automatic Slim 07-07-2009 02:06 AM

Are there any good bands out there that use only bass and drums, like Big Business and Om?

Check out Inhaler or 8 Way Santa by Tad

or

Screming Trees are aren't as heavy but anything early from them like Even If or Sweet Oblivion might be a good bet.

Synthetic_Solace 07-15-2009 10:20 PM

I'd recommend older In Flames or Dark Tranquility

Synthetic_Solace 07-16-2009 03:15 AM

Some good folk metal band are as follows :
Alestorm, Amorphis, Borknagar, Eluveitie, Empyrium, Ensiferum, Finntroll, Haggard, Kivimetsän Druidi, Korpiklaani, Månegarm, Metsatöll, Nokturnal Mortum, Turisas, Týr, Vintersorg, Windir, Wintersun, Wolfchant

I know it's a long list, but I think thats it's well worth looking at. If anyone wants to know some good songs by these bands just ask and I'll be more than glad to let you know.

JennyChef123 07-19-2009 09:45 AM

Lamb of God. Best band ever. Period.

Hilary 07-20-2009 08:54 AM

I'm looking for black metal more than anything.

I have some but looking for more (focusing predominantly on synths/keyboards/piano if possible)

If you haven't heard another band in your life then maybe, yeah. :p

Swink 07-23-2009 01:37 PM

Im into 'older' music mostly, my top 10 bands would probably be something like

The Rolling Stones
Allman Brothers Band
Pink Floyd
Led Zeppelin
Dire Straits
Jimi Hendrix Experience
ACDC
Cream
Jethro Tull
Rush

(+ all the work the bandmembers did solo so that covers Clapton, Knopfler, etc)

and I very much like blues (BB Kings earlier stuff, John Mayall, you get the idea).

ANYWAY, the deal is, I wanna get into some newer music (mostly for the chicks, heh). Ive recently started listening to Muse and Oasis (bought discographies) - Oasis sorta failed at impressing me cause they sounded incredibly generic and dull, but Muse kinda got me hooked.

ANYWHOOOoo, recommend me some 'new' talented musicians (if you mention people like Rob Thomas I will e-stab you) and bands that I can give a shot. Mostly rock (the progressive variety) and I will consider blues if its incredibly talented (dont want 20 year olds ripping off good musicians claiming it as their own ****) and would love some jazz.

Oh, and Tool is also out of the question. I hate those ****s.

Go.

Actually sounds sorta decent, reminds me of Pearl Jam heavily (atleast the Phantom Green song). Will give em a spin.

pretty_fly 07-27-2009 11:35 AM

I need something not too heavy. But in the Hard Rock genre.
Three Days Grace, Seether or Shinedown-like.

And then maybe something similar to Muse?

Thanks.

pizza pie 08-01-2009 03:15 PM

crash_override 08-05-2009 10:08 PM

I'm looking for some intense extreme metal/ deathcore that sounds something similar to this...

I need to update my workout playlist, I'm getting bored with all the **** I have now, so the more reco's the better, thanks.

You might like Grunge music.
Give these bands a try, and if you like them I can show you some more that aren't as kind of more raw and less....listener friendly? I'm not sure what to label them as but you get the idea.

Nirvana
Soundgarden
Alice In Cahins (I think you'll really like these guys.)
Maybe some Dinosaur Jr.

Emalie 08-14-2009 04:20 PM

Hmm...

The_wicked_bitch 08-23-2009 01:46 PM

Have you heard these Ministry albums?

The Land of Rape and Honey
The Mind is a Terrible Thing to Taste
ΚΕΦΑΛΗΞΘ (Psalm 69)

The more recent ones are definitely more metal than these, but these are heavy also and the peak of their career.

Hanzel Und Gretyl
Lard
N17
Tanswut
Circle Of Dust

Rainfall 08-26-2009 01:48 PM

For some reason some of Ministry's stuff (Filth Pig is the album I have) reminds of Perfect Cricle's Mer de Noms, but it's probably just me lol
Anyone know stuff similar to HORSE the Band, but not so harsh/crude?

Argent 09-01-2009 03:00 PM

Though I’m happy with my library of metal, I’ve come to the realization that I also want some mellower stuff. I realized that the slower songs that really touch me deep share some characteristics. I’d really like more music like Kansas’s Dust in the Wind, Aerosmith’s Dream On, System of a Down’s Lost in Hollywood, Metallica’s The Unforgiven, The Beatles' In My Life, Nightwish’s The Islander, and Blind Guardian’s Harvest of Sorrow.

They’re all (to me) sweetly melancholic, and many are acoustic. I'd like to find a band/bands that focus on that sort of music, but I have absolutely no idea where to start looking. Suggestions would be muchly appreciated.

I've been on a quest for a while to find good folk metal without harsh vocals. It's not that easy. Skyclad fits the bill, but many of their songs are meh (but you should definitely check out "Anotherdrinkingsong" and the new recordings of "Spinning Jenny" and "Penny Dreadful"--they're excellent). Falconer is mainly power metal, but with folk influences--they're good but not great.

Finally, you have to hear Equilibrium's "Mana." 16 minutes of epic, instrumental folk metal. The rest of their music has harsh vocals.

I've got two great bands for you

PAIN and Reverend Agony

PAIN is the side project of Swedish Death Metal artist Peter Tägtgren (of Hypocrisy fame) and they've been around for a very long time. The album I would recommend starting off with is their 2002 Nothing Remains The Same which has an awesome version of "Eleanor Rigby".

That Ministry album was way out of character for them, I wouldn't use it as a reference point for their sound.

I'm kind of the same way...I was into metal in the late 80s through the mid 90s but explored other genres since then (various electronic, hip-hop, indie, hardcore, punk, prog, psych, etc) and Mastodon is one of the few recent ones I've gotten into. Not that I really try to get into much metal these days, I'm not necessarily looking for any, but kind of curious in a way. I know a lot of names of respected metal bands I guess I'm just not that inspired to check them out.

pk00 09-06-2009 05:03 AM

Do you know any songs that are similar to the song "I want it all" by Queen.
That song is awesome!

Seragon Ripper 09-07-2009 06:43 PM

Dimmu Borgir if you haven't heard them Maybe Queensryche or Amon Amarth
