Amesoeurs are a must. They only released one self-titled album and it is fantastic.

Also get the split album The World Comes To An End In The End Of a Journey, it features songs by a few bands. There's plenty of variety on it from quiet ambient pieces to almost full-on black metal and it all fits together beautifully.

Have you not heard of Anaal Nathrakh? They sound just up your alley. Black metal with a grindcore intensity from England.
Yep; I don't think I'd call them grindcore, but they are amazing. Really great band.

I enjoyed the album until the clean vocals kicked in. Believe me I tried, but I just couldn't get past them. Seriously, I thought it sounded like a toddler was singing.

That's a woman singing... But the harsher songs are very good as well, with Neige from Alcest on vocals. It is a bit light in places and might be tough for a metal fan to swallow, but believe me it's a good album.

ok i've checked out Alcest, as some posters here suggested I do

wtf? how is this black metal? it's just pure shoegazer with distortion

Agalloch, on the other hand, is pretty good
