Yeah five finger death punch is a band that is popular on the west coast, and gradually gaining more & more fans in the eastern states as well. the drummer has some of the best work Ive ever heard before on the double bass, they have 3 or 4 songs I like, (The Bleeding is 1). You might want to check out a band called 'Circus Maximus' that a friend turned me onto a couple of months back, I wouldnt classify them as a metal band only, they have more of a technical rock style

Well, I've always said I like metal. But in reality I like Black Sabbath, Motorhead and RATM. And I used to like Metallica. (not so much anymore)

The only band out of them 3 I still listen to is Black Sabbath.

Am I missing out on some absolutely brilliant metal bands? If so, who am I missing out on?

Black Sabbath themselves influenced countless bands to slow the tempo and down tune the guitars. An insane amount of doom metal bands are influenced heavily by them or are even just Sabbath rip offs.

Id consider giving the debut albums by Pentagram, Pagan Altar, Witchfinder General and Trouble a listen. May not be your thing but i dig them.

Black Sabbath are the only metal band I ever really got into. I liked Motorhead a lot at one time as well. I've never heard of any of them, I'm such a Metal n00b. I'll be sure to give them all a listen. (Opens wiki)

Well they are all just bands ive thrown out there because of the mention of Sabbath. Id give them a go but if you are still looking for more metal after that i could point you in another direction.

Default I like In Flames, recommendations?

I really like in flames. Especially the album A sense of purpose, every song on that album is great. their old stuff is good but i prefer the newer stuff.

The bands listed with them classified as Melodic Death Metal in the education sticky, i just dont care for as much.

2 other bands i really like are five finger death punch and linkin park. if that gives u any more direction to stuff i like.

i dont like stuff i cannot understand, if i have to google the lyrics u cant sing..

This part of your post is a bit out there. I assume you're referring to bands in the Death Metal and Black Metal genres being that's where most growls/shrieks are preformed.

Most people that say things such as what you've said up there don't have a clear understanding. The growls in Death Metal actually take quite a bit of skill to pull off correctly and without causing damage. I'm not saying all Death Metal vocalist are skilled and pull them off correctly, because that's ignorant. What I'm saying is that you can't say they are bad singers because a lot of them are talented individuals.

On the other side of this, you've got people that sing cleanly and are easy to understand, but still aren't exactly good singers. I would go as far as saying most Death Metal vocalist are more talented than Chester Bennington.

To say someone can't sing because they are practicing a different vocal style is a bit unfair is all I'm trying to say here. I do understand that you're not a fan of the vocal style and I respect that, because a lot of people aren't.

blah blah, u completely misunderstood what i meant. I did not mean literally they suck at singing. im a nobody who cannot sing myself.

i would assume from the first part of my post that it would be obvious i was using it to explain how i felt about certain types of music, bands, and the sound i prefer.

But to dumb it down, what i mean is, i like melodic death metal, not death metal, not black metal, etc.

I could have swore i posted in "Metal & Rock Music Recommendations" and not in "Lets start a pointless argument and not recommend any music to people who post here".

Well Dave Mustaine who is the band's mainman is a seriously good guitar player and some of their stuff is superb. Virtually everyone goes for the album Rust In Peace as their highlight but it's a little too polished for me. Peace sells is an absolute monster of an album.

Probably the best track on the album although the lyrics are terrible which Mustaine admits to.
