I never know what to class as 'alternative'.

I love Nirvana, Alice In Chains and Smashing Pumpkins, if they are alternative?

For grunge, Alice in Chains is by far my favourite band. IMO, Layne Staley was one of the greatest 90s vocalists, along with Mike Patton and Chris Cornell.

Alt. rock is a very screwy genre because people seem to dump every second band into it. Even though I have RHCP classified as funk rock on my computer, most people would count them as alt. rock, so for this thread, RHCP is my fav alt. rock band.
