Good chill music

Ok, I know that heaps of you metal ****s are gonna read this thread and out of your ignorance you are just gonna say how much this music sucks and that i should F#$% off......... But no, F$%@ You

OK, the point of this thread...

Im wanting to find some other acoustic based guitar acts in the sort of soft mellow style that say Mason Jennings plays in. If anyone knows of some of these acts that they can recommend me that would just be tops!..

However, please dont recommend Ben Harper or Jack Johnson to me............. Please.. Peace Out

dog 12-28-2004 06:23 AM

yea Ben Harper and Jack Johnson suck big time

Sneer 12-28-2004 01:58 PM

some of radioheads music is as spaced out as you can get. try damien rice? O is a good album. also, jeff buckley was amazing. a new guy thats out now is mark morrison, his style is based on these acoustic ballads you seem to desire. you cant go far wrong with coldplay in terms of chill out or in fact any other indie band in the same vain.

TheBig3 12-28-2004 10:12 PM

I don't know who that is but mellow music thats not bad is like Sigor Ros, and you can always use Bob Marley.

fidelityfiend 12-30-2004 08:07 AM

Ben Harper and JJ do not suck at all - expand your horizons - try Toad The Wet Sprocket - Subdudes - Jason Mraz - Roxy Music - Chris Isaak

Urban Hat€monger ? 12-31-2004 12:21 PM

Mr Scruff , Nick Drake , Air (Before they turned ****) , Massive Attack (ditto) , Can , The Blue Nile , Tindersticks

Sweet Jane 12-31-2004 01:20 PM

If you're going for Air get Moon Safari for albums, Playground Love if downloading songs. Nick Drake - Pink Moon. Bobby Conn, The Hidden Cameras, Smog, The Delgados, Tindersticks (as already mentioned) Teenage Fanclub, Sigur Ros (as mentioned) Belle and Sebastian, Cat Power and the Smiths also quite acoustic and chilled.

I don't know who hell Mason Jennings is, but if you want good chillin' music try listening to a little band called Sublime alsoThe Doors are good for just hanging out.

I don't really chill to The Doors, they make me think too much.
I like to listen to stupid pop music with only one or two melodies that makes me stupid.... :usehead:
No, I'd say The Strokes has a couple things going on though, they're not complete "pop" with only one melody.

David Frost 05-09-2005 07:16 PM

great chill music people should check out.

Naked City (or anything with John Zorn)
Bjork
Do Make Say Think
Rilo Kiley
Frou Frou
American Football

Best stuff to listen to when u want to sleep!

We all know what its like to come home pissed, trying to keep it down so your parents don't awake and start a tyrade of screams and questions at you! But you can't quite get to sleep because your still buzzing from the rush of the numerous JD's and coke, or whatever stimulants you've taken... if you do, anyway i suggest smoking a few joints or listening to these bands very quitely:
Pink Floyd, any album, doesn't even matter if you like them when your awake! It's like whale music for people who aren't... well tossers... the soothing melodies and lovely calm singing just sends even a hyped up crack addicts to sleep, if there are no distractions and you have the will power to go to sleep!
Also as heavy as some songs can be, I find when I'm revising, if I ever bother, Tool is the greatest to listen to... Maynards voice is almost as though it were in the background and you rarely find yourself distracted because your singing along with it.

Well thats basically it, I have other bands to recall to you, but time i do not have... adios nite nite boys haha Happy Chilling

Bodom After Midnight baby!

The Early Novembers, Dashboard Confessionals and Senses Fail. b|Bands like that have a sort of mellow tone to them. But unfortunately they have a "punk" intention when they sing.

Expletive Deleted 09-30-2005 06:51 PM

I noticed a lot of people naming bands that, while definitely chill-out music, aren't acoustic based, so...

Andrew Bird
Elliott Smith
Martha Wainwright
Patrick Wolf
Rufus Wainwright
Sufjan Stevens
Ted Leo
Will Johnson

I also agree with the guy who named B&S, they're an excellent band (one of my favorites, my signature is a quote from one of their songs). I'm surprised no one has mentioned Bright Eyes, not that I'd recommend him myself.

davidMC1982 10-01-2005 04:26 AM

A few suggestions, some a more Jazz oriented than rock but anyway...

Charlie Hunter
Pat Metheny
Mogwai
Ken Stringfellow
Emiliana Torrini
Goldfrapp
Elysian Fields
Tim Reynolds (definately check him out for acoustic guitar chill type music)
Moloko

Dave

davidMC1982 10-01-2005 10:25 AM

Add Brad Mehldau and Ray Lynch to that list too.
