What sub genre do you hate?
What metal sub genre do you hate, and why?
I personally hate doom metal and black metal. Doom metal because the vocals totally suck and the songs are boring. Also, most doom metal sounds kind of depressing to me. Black metal because the riffs are annoying and boring, and the overall sound of the music is too dark for my tastes. I can honestly say i hate these two with a passion because i have yet to listen to a single song from either sub genre because it sucked so bad. Discuss! |

I know a lot of people are gonna say power and prog, but at least that stuff has comedy value.
I'm a passionate hater of all things black metal. |
Black/death/doom.
That pretty much covers it lol. I hate doom cause it's just so boring and depressing. I hate black because it's just evil and the instruments sound horrible. I hate death cause of the vocals that are so appalling. |

I have yet to hear a decent nu-metal band. For the most part I hate metalcore, chugga chugga breakdown chugga chugga doesn't quite do it for me.
I don't get the doom metal hate at all. Black Sabbath anyone? |
Quote:
But hey, not all metalcore has ****ty breakdowns, i'm not a fan of breakdowns either, but in some songs i like them. I'm surprised you didn't mention metalcore vocals, alot of core haters don't like the choruses and all that, lol. |
Black Metal - The whole dark atmosphere via ****ty production and repetative riffing isn't really appealing to me. Plus the whole "if it's popular, it sucks" concept of most fans is pretty retarded, imo.
Hardcore Punk - This music is just so anti-musical in an attempt to sound rebellous, it amuses me. Deathcore - Pig squeals, boring "br00tal" chugigng riffs, and drum wankery, oh my! Grindcore - Again, this style is so anti-musical, and there's almost no melody at all in this music, which is what I mainly look for in good music. Nu-Metal - Pretty much a whole bastardzation of the whole metal genre, the attempt to sound angry and pissed off while rapping to down-tuned "riffs" is pretty humorous. |

people who dont like Black metal because its "evil" makes me sctrach my head .......... and u call yourself metal fans when yall say that it makes u sound like a wuss
i tend to not like alot of punk bands and Scottish bands .............. |

Dave Mustaine is Christian though, nuff said. But yeah, the guy who said he hates deathcore, grindcore...I agree lol. I only really like thrash, heavy, and melodic metalcore. Linkin Park's first album was good nu-metal. |

I agree, i hate anti religion lyrics. Even though i am not religious i think it is wrong. |
My friend actually just like nagged me about Parkway lol.
Carrion is my favorite, Breaking Point has some awesome guitar, and those are the only two that I can actually distinguish lol. Btw, if you are into thrash at the moment, new thrash band that's sick! YouTube - Lazarus A.D. - Who I Really Am |

Breaking point is one of my favorite songs by parkway but there are so many good songs like it, like the sirens song and 5 months. Carrion is kind of boring, but it was my favorite as well until i discovered there heavier stuff. |

I actually don't mind the melodic singing in the chorus if its done well. Its really just the guitar work in metalcore that bugs. The chugga riffs more so than the breakdowns but I find that breakdowns often kill the pace of a song. |

The riffs that sound like they could be breakdowns but used more for verses.
45 seconds to 'til about 1:05 in this song is a good example. Its just short of being a breakdown but fits the song structure better. They use the riff again right after the chorus. Seriously, I'd like this band if not for that nonsense, but those kind of riffs are the most annoying thing to come out of a guitar imo. |

1:43-whenever is a display of the chugga chugga riff thing. Its a riff (and I mean a riff, they always sound exactly the same) that every metalcore band uses and it always manages to completely ruin whatever song its inserted into. I typically like Whats He Building In There? but god damn that riff annoys me to no end.
|
dude, that's the moshing sound that most metalcore uses in there songs. It's strictly put in there for moshing i believe, and it doesn't bother me at all. You're right though, almost all of them sound the same, no matter what song they are in.
I thought those chugga riffs came from hardcore anyways, i'm not sure but that is what i always thought. |
Really? It does the exact opposite for me. Its so dull and lacks energy that it makes me want to go do something else, like sit in a chair and drink some tea. Seriously, how does one mosh to that?

Here, tell me if you notice it in this song. I'm trying to figure out if we are talking about the same thing here. |
Almost immediately. 15 or seconds into the song.
Edit: Jesus ****ing Christ 1:00 into the song has confirmed that this has to be the worst song in the universe. Edit Again: Actually this entire song is like one big gigantic obnoxious breakdown. |
I still question how that is moshy at all. Its the most ho-hum lazy riff ever. If ever there were a riff that could influence synchronized sleeping that would be it.

Probably deathcore or whatever you call it. Complete utter boring overrated sh!te. I hate a lot of modern hardcore aswell, it's boring and every band sounds the exact same.
|
It seems we have an over saturation of ****ty identikit metal sub-genres. Surprise.
- Soft rock: no needs that much schmalz - Modern Nashville Country: see above - Post-grunge - anything based around lord of the rings. |
I really hate goregrind/coprogrind
|
Dont like slutcore, sciencecore, softcore, whorecore, or applecore. I like rockandrollcore though.
I feel ya on the chugga Unfan, not a big fan, but if it is used in a song it should be for a breakdown without the vocals layed on top of it. And I'll bet money that all these bands had moshing in mind when using that. "Oh snap! we forgot to make that repetitive sound so the kids can mosh!" |
I really hate the stupid chugga riff, crappy breakdowns and bad screaming in metallcore. And nu-"metal" as a whole.
|
i just can't get into most Punk and Black Metal. and not cause of the lyrics or anything, those are probably the last things i look for in a song
|
Soft Rock
I mean why bother rocking at all if you're just going to do it softly? |
chugga riff have been around since the dawn of time and any band that usess it must really be a tool
iam pretty sure chugga riffs have been around since the late 70's |

I also fogot to mention that I hate hip hop/rap and most country, but those aren't rock sub genres so I didn't bother to mention them. |
I can't say I'm a big metalcore fan, just doesn't interest me, everything I've heard sounds pretty generic and follows a strict formula. Nu-metal is also a steaming pile a excrement minus ONE Hypocrisy album.
|
As much as I dislike the endless sub-sub genres there are many bands that I dislike but generally there isn't one area of metal I particulary dislike. I am not keen on some Black Metal but in certain cases I can listen. There is a lot of crap in Grindcore but there is also some damn good stuff too.
|
Most metal doesn't really appeal to me.
|
Metalcore is the worst **** ever and should be eliminated from this planet. Most of the bands suck and most of the songs are lame and annoying.
|
Death/deathcore are the only two genres that I completely write off. Awful stuff.
|
Wow, so I finally know what you guys mean when you say chugging riffs!
And now I know that that is the reason I love the metalcore that I do, chugging riffs are perfect! And that song Blackout is tight. |
