Imagine if hip hop songs were about Satanism.

Actually I that thought crossed my mind a while back. Gothic Hip-Hop would be/ could be awesome.

Sodacake 07-17-2009 11:54 AM

It'd definitely be different.

The Unfan 07-18-2009 05:25 PM

Doesn't 3-6 Mafia rap about Satanism?

Rage Against the Machine 07-18-2009 05:57 PM

Justin Broadrick, anyone?

The Unfan 07-18-2009 05:59 PM

Does Mike Patton count as a metal vocalist?

Sodacake 07-18-2009 07:27 PM

I don't see why he should. None of his bands have really been metal.

Sure about that?

ZaborgZaloog 07-18-2009 09:41 PM

What about Layne Staley?

I Hate is a great song. Good band too.

T-Bomb 07-21-2009 01:51 AM

best metal vox

I'd go for Stumpen (Gero Ivers) from Knorkator
Classic comic industrial metal from Germany!

v1ktorlindh 08-20-2009 07:11 AM

matt tuck in bfmv and that guys in chiodos
matt tuck: probably the only metalcore singer that actually is really good on singing clean and he is good at screams to

.Tom. 08-20-2009 10:45 AM

Daniel Gildenlow for me, hands down.

YouTube - Daniel Gildenlöw (Pain of Salvation) vocal moments

Petula07 02-17-2010 07:28 AM

I have two favourite vocalists :)

Daniel Gildenlow (Pain of Salvation) - so many passions and variety in his voice. Maybe sometimes he is too pathetic but I forgive it because his voice is perfect

Mikael Akerfeldt (Opeth) - I love his voice, it gives me goose bumps. And he is reason why I started to like growls. I think I don't need to write more :D

I`m surprised to see, just how many people on here like Daniel Gildenlow!

Why? You think his voice is bad?

Yes, I really like him. But Mikael from Opeth is better, maybe the best metal voice for me :)

No, I actually like his voice and material, I`m just surprised to see his name here being mentioned by several people.

I have a feeling that lot of people would say he has great voice... and not only for metalheads :)

I saw that M. Akerfeldt is popular in this thread too :D

scottsy 02-20-2010 09:39 AM

I kinda love Devin Townsend's versatile voice.... the guy can groan and scream with the best of them but he can do gentle and atmospheric too.... versatility is the key to a good vocalist in my opinion. Townsend may not be technically the greatest vocalist ever, but for my ears it's what he does and how he uses his voice to effect and how he blends it with his guitar playing, too...

Scissorman 02-21-2010 04:10 PM

Nick Holmes from Paradise lost, because he can do
THIS:

and THIS:

ElephantSack 02-23-2010 08:31 AM

I would have to go with Mikael Akerfeldt (Opeth) and Tommy Rogers (Between the Buried and Me).
Big inspirations.

Graveyard_Diciple 02-25-2010 04:42 PM

Randy Blyth

Out from under the bridge 02-25-2010 09:38 PM

James Hetfield would have to be the best singer ever. Go Mettalica.

Jordyfish 02-26-2010 12:26 PM

Why have I not heard any mention of James LaBrie? D= Joey Belladonna?! I know it's a stretch, but Mustaine, mebbe? He can't really sing, but a lot of people like that. I mena, look at Bob Dylan! xD

I have two names to add.

ROB HALFORD.
(As Scottsy said) Devin Townsend!

:D :D Yeah, James LaBrie... hehe, probably some fans of Dream Theater aren't blind and they know he isn't some special vocalist. But I am not against this band, I like them - in some way...

Btw Bob Dylan... Not my taste so much but big respect :)

Probably music isn't only about singing.

i agree, devin townsend is amazing he can do it all. listen to anything from strapping young lad then listen to Ih-Ah from the cd addicted two completely different styles and he nails em both. although im a much bigger fan of his SYL project than the Devin Townsend Project

I'unno man, maybe I'm crazy but IMO, LaBrie is one of the most epic vocalists in metal. Even if it's prog metal.

Oh, I know music isn't about singing only. I myself am a guitarist, but yeah, I think since every voice is different, they've become fairly welcome in music over the years. Now if only instrument voicings could get the same recognition.

No. Definitelly you aren't crazy ;) It's just your feeling and everybody has different feelings.
I realized lot of people here hate Dream Theater... But I know also lot of people who loves them maybe more than it's reasonable. So everything in music is just matter of taste and personality :)

scottsy 02-28-2010 09:47 AM

Thanks for all the Devin Townsend love guys!!! I didn't think I'd find so much agreement!

TheRedChord616 03-04-2010 08:06 AM

Tommy Rogers of BtBaM wins easily for me just based on sheer variety, although he doesn't use it as much on TGM... but I can listen to Alaska or The Anatomy Of if I wanna hear some great secondhand Freddy Mercury-esque vocals :afro:

Honorable Mention: Phil Labonte(ATR), Brandon Davis(Across The Sun), Bruce ****inson/Tobias Sammet(Iron Maiden/Edguy respectively, they sound similar)

So many more. I'm gonna quit before I have a ginormous list. :shycouch:

krflexx 03-11-2010 08:12 AM

The metal God---Rob Halford

zeppy111 03-11-2010 10:59 AM

Nick Holmes (Paradise Lost). . . If anyone can listen to 'Praise Lamented Shade' and tell me he is not amazing, I will consider the world dead.

bigcc213 03-12-2010 11:26 AM

Nahhh easily Guy Kozowyk from TRC.
Maybe Brandon Schroder or Chris Fox from ****.
Orrr Vincent Bennett from TAS.

cadgod120 03-14-2010 12:32 AM

If I had to list my 5 favorite vocalists:

Bruce ****inson-Iron Maiden
Randy Blythe-Lamb of God
Rody Walker-Protest the Hero
Trevor Strnad-The Black Dahlia Murder
Johnathan Davis-KoЯn

scottsy 03-14-2010 12:55 AM

I did forget about the goodness that is Jonathan Davis from Korn...

icastico 03-14-2010 10:48 AM

Dont really know if they'd be considered metal but Ryan McCombs from Soil and, now, Drowning Pool has an amazing voice.

Board Manners 101 would translate this to: I believe you are all incorrect. it is my exclusive opinion that the gentleman who perfroms lead vocals for the band we know as "Brutality" is the most superior at his intended function. Are you all suffering from some form of mental retardation?
