Best Band for the Buck

Given the state of the economy, I thought this might be a good question: what was the best deal you've gotten on a music purchase (excluding giveaways and downloads)? I don't mean just the lowest price, but the price to quality ratio, so to speak.

Earlier this year I bought all of the Doors CDs (I already had the vinyls but wanted to rip them to my PC.) from Amazon.com for just 1 cent each, plus $2.98 shipping and handling each.

If you're going to pay one cent for an album, why the hell not just download it for free?

I got a Coheed and Cambria CD for five dollars at Bamboozle. I thought it would be an old EP with 5 tracks or something... It's a 13-track album. [=

Can pick up most of the classic reggae/jazz albums for 40 rand (Equivalent of like 2-3 pounds and 5 dollars) which is a score, when most albums are about 150 rand ( 10-12 pounds)

Examples :

Miles Davis
Peter Tosh
Steel Pulse
Thelonius Monk
Charles Mingus
Loius Armstrong
Gregory Isaacs
ect...

Free music that is good is pretty brilliant value for money if you ask me.

Just downloaded the complete Beatles Discography for free. Talk about score!

I think most of this forum download albums for free rather than buying the CD..

I spent over 100 dollars on ITunes this week alone. But sometimes I do the torrent thing.

Nice! I wish I had that much money to spend on music...

I usually go out and buy the actual CD. I like to have something tangible. I'm old school.

Arya Stark 06-16-2009 09:03 PM

Is it true that the price of iTunes songs went up?

Some did, 1.29 now. No albums are over 9.99 still, that i've seen anyway.

Arya Stark 06-16-2009 09:16 PM

That's horrid. xD It's like gas.

One of the best deals I've encountered was 5 dollars to see Behold the Arctopus and Dysrythmia in a hole in the wall venue. So ****ing worth it. Those guys are great musicians. They're a couple of instrumental bands that don't just fade into background music.

Most of my Smiths CD's cost £5. That's value for money if i've ever encountered it.

cheezyridr 06-19-2009 01:13 AM

i got drill's self titled cd for $1.99 at a gas station once.

What's the bit rate on the songs? Still 128 kb/s?

Anyways I found an awesome website called amiestreet.com that has most full albums for under $5.00 and a fair amount for free. I got all of Christian Williams and The Bad Things from them for free. Almost all their stuff is from Independent labels and I have to say the website was a major score for me. Whenever I'm looking for a new album, that website is always my first stop.

I actually bought Weezer's blue album at a garage sale the year it came out for $1. The memories I have put behind that album are priceless.

THAT is band for the BUCK:thumb:

Arya Stark 06-19-2009 03:03 PM

That's amazing.

I'm jealous.
