I remember when I first heard about Nirvana. I was downtown with my uncle, and he was talking about the grunge era and the significance it had with Seattle. He was talking about a lot of bands grunge and non grunge, like Rage Against The Machine and Metallica and all those. Then we went into the record store near his neighborhood and he surprised me with a RATM album and the Nevermind album by Nirvana. It was a pretty fun experience.

Well I went from the first couple posts to these last few. Heres my 2 cents to the first page. To me Nirvana was kinda the man vs. the music. Obviously Kurt won that one, his legend is 10 times more famous than his music and it really does anger me once and a while. His drug use and his evident suicide(for those of you who believe he is either alive or was murdered) would be what sells Nirvana their records after his death. As for Nirvana as a whole(while Kurt was alive) there fanbase ran with the mainstream fanbase. So someone could be listening to No Doubt then Nirvana would come on and they'd be pleased with both. Then theres those who actually liked Nirvana and other bands such as Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr. etc. happily they would probably listen to all of Nirvana's records. But for those Z100 listeners(NYC's Pop Station(Die)-_-) back then they were probably young as hell and both the records but only liked some songs for a week then they'd go off and listen to the Notorious B.I.G. Whats Funny is that some things never change except music is ****tier now.

As for my views on the band, I love them they're my favorite band and will always be my favorite. The first time I heard Nirvana I was about 4 months and I still remember hearing Milk It at that age like it was yesterday(Yes I'm 16). As for Kurt's legend I could care less, I mean it's a little sad that he passed at such a young age leaving us wondering how his music would've sounded had he stayed but I honestly wouldn't have it any other way. All these guys on youtube would probably disagree, of course but hey they listen for the man not the music. Now for what he's done to his wife and daughter, Courtney was always messed up so who cares and if he were still alive then Francis shouldn't be with either of em so Kurt and Courtney both should've died just like Sid and Nancy(for the sake of the child).

So now I say R.I.P. Nirvana and R.I.P. Kurt Cobain and thank you Nirvana for making such wonderful music.

I resisted listening to Nirvana for years. Seemed like one of these bands that everybody hyped up but was probably overrated. Then one day, I listened to my friend's copy of "Nevermind", and it was one of the best albums I'd heard EVER. I would not call them overrated - they were really that good - maybe only overrated in the sense that they weren't around that long and didn't release that many albums compared to other bands of similar legendary status.

Also, if you like Nirvana, there's another similar band from the late 80's called the Pixies that you would probably like. Kurt Cobain said he drew a lot of inspiration from them.

The vast majority of people on this forum are probably aware of that.

Length of time doesn`t really have anything to do with it. Jimi Hendrix only released 3 studio albums and Janis Joplin only 2. Both of these have legendary status.

Nirvana was kind of like....my parents'....beatles, hendrix? Who was the most rebelious back then? Anyway, at an age when I was already super rebelious, it was like gun powder on an open fire.

Nirvana was the face of mainstream rebellious music for thier generation. The fame made them a poster child for grunge, bringing it mainstream. In his effort to counter the music industry that he hated, Cobain had become consumed by it. Then he killed himself. They produced great and influential music. I don't have a bad thing to say about Nirvana.
