Black Metal

I have found very few people on this site who seem to be into Black Metal(bands like: Mayhem, Burzum,Darkthrone,1349,Marduk,Anaal Nathrakh) Surely there has got to be a few others who share my interest? :shycouch:

itchytasty 01-13-2005 07:09 PM

i like some, not my favorite metal genre though, by a long shot.

riseagainstrocks 01-15-2005 10:08 AM

Anaal Nathrak's new album got horrible reviews. I haven't heard it yet but I don't think I'm gonna spend money on it. I don't like the overtly Satanic imagery but some of the music is great.

Bathory
Old Man's Child
Kataklysm

I'm more into death metal, but I don't mind some crushingly repetitive stuff from time to time.

itchytasty 01-15-2005 10:13 AM

Kataklysm is death metal...

Old Man's Child's newest one was pretty good.

riseagainstrocks 01-15-2005 10:27 AM

^ alrighty. And ya, it was good.

Hardcore_Guy 01-15-2005 11:09 AM

i love Cradle of Filth... if you consider that Black Metal.

riseagainstrocks 01-15-2005 02:22 PM

^ not in the least

Amo Pheara 01-16-2005 10:23 AM

With Reguards to the Satanic Imagry im not that into it either when it comes to Black Metal its all about Misanthropy and coldness for me. But then again Aker****e manages to create a unique sound with there Satanic beliefs that i was very fond of.

itchytasty 01-16-2005 08:03 PM

90% of the time i don't bother listening to the lyrics, rather, i just listen to the music and enjoy it. (assuming that it's good)

good atmosphere is always a plus

TheBig3 01-16-2005 08:54 PM

I think more people could answer this question if you liad out the criteria. I think metal has the most sub-genres of all the major catagories. I always thought black metal meant it had keys but thats probably as inaccurate as ****.

Lay it out guy. I read an interview with Phil Anselmo where he listed every project he had and what kind of metal it was. There were flavors I'd never seen before.

might help clear a little bit up...

Fenixpunk 01-17-2005 12:06 PM

King Diamond is always first to pop into my head when i think black metal

metalhead 01-17-2005 04:00 PM

Illnath is a good black metal band, you probably have never heard of them, but thats because there from some European country.

hah, most black metal bands are from "some European country"

TheBig3 01-18-2005 10:50 AM

Didn't clear it up so much. All I got was its based off of heavy metal and claissical music which sounds cool. But then it said it uses Satanic Imagery, which I usually see as a sign of immaturity. Like "lets do something that will offend people AWESOME."

Lame. But Metal and classical, reminds me of Randy Rhodes who, for as much as everyone blows hendrix or clapton, was the best guitarist ever.

itchytasty 01-18-2005 05:05 PM

it's closely related to thrash and death metal... it often has a symphonic element to it, at least through keyboards. vocals are more likely than not screamed (as opposed to growling and whatnot). if you became more familiar with it, i suppose it would be easier to pick out from, say, a death metal band. sorry, but i'm really not good at explaining things that i hear...

black metal was basically founded on satanic imagery/lyrics, but not so much that they worship the devil, but their loathing of Christianity.

iceplayer744 01-21-2005 06:20 PM

yea, i like masterplan and symphony x if that counts as black metal.

Squee 05-24-2005 05:33 PM

Black Metal

=3 Anyone know some really good black metal?

Dimmu Borgir is not black metal.

But yeah. I'm more into Darkthrone and **** like that.

SlayeReyalS 05-24-2005 05:45 PM

Gorgoroth, Opeth, Satyricon, Burzum, and a bunch more. yes, Borgir are black metal.

riseagainstrocks 05-24-2005 06:50 PM

nope. not black metal. they are lame. rest of the list is good.

Static-Fear-Shot 05-24-2005 08:21 PM

Sorry to burst all of your bubbles out their, those who actually 'think', yes not 'know' that Dimmu Bogir are Black metal. Pffft... like wtf as if mofo's ... comparing them with BM is like parodising a terrosist attack, without the repercussions of getting bush whacked by a buunch of angry arabs ... *cough*, never mind ..well my main point is that they are so not DM ... l'd say GC... imo! :)

So wait, let me get this straight.....now Dimmu Borgir are black metal and Good Charlotte are death metal? Okay, got it, I guess I had my information messed up or something...psh.

SlayeReyalS 05-24-2005 09:11 PM

thr truth about GC... Good Charlotte gave a completely bad name to the initials GC. GC means GrindCore. and Static just called Dimmu Borgir grindcore.

Static-Fear-Shot 05-24-2005 09:22 PM

thank you for deciphering that one for the simpleton .. ;) .. much appreciated!

Trauma 05-24-2005 10:04 PM

Ah gotcha, what the hell does grindcore mean?
Is that ANOTHER sub-genre of this metal phenomenon?

Static-Fear-Shot 05-24-2005 10:12 PM

It is so much more ... something so stupifying .. that IF you were to comprehend its complex nature, your mind would be boggeled, due to the fact that it is just so indefineable.....
Well not really, l'll just let you think on the subject ... unless of course there is something in it for me! if not .. well ask someone else! I'm only human!.. and only humanity is that selfish!

What he's trying to say is : " yes, its a bunch of angry men playing yet another sub-genre of this metal phenomenon, but I don't know enough about what I'm talking about to actually tell you what that is." Snickers,I think your cool and Iv'e watched you grow and mature into a member of this music banter family from your very first post, so I'll tell you what grindcore is, and I don't care if there's anything in it for me. Grindcore is, in fact, Good Charlotte.

ish 05-24-2005 11:04 PM

Good Charlotte is not Grindcore, my god this is a Rock and Metal forum not a ****ing Pop forum, there is a place for that! Grindcore is just metal, but it isn't Heavy, Black or Gothic, it's just another type of metal in this metal phenonenon yes.

heres what i know from grindcore....

GRINDCORE: yes, a sub-genre of this metal phenomenom. grindcore is the use of guitars the speed 3 times faster than regular "core" bands. the bass is, at some points, 2 times faster than the normal speed, but on most occasions, the bass stays behind at normal speed. the drums are drums, only involving a lot more snare than usual. in some cases, multiple snares, all with a different sound. in most cases, the vocals involve deep growling vocals. highly influenced by classic hardcore, death metal, and thrash.

sample bands: Pig Destroyer, Concubine, Cenotaph, Cattle Decapitation, and Carcass.

but this is just from what i know. im not entirely sure, in fact, grindcore is a genre that gets most of the music loving people confused.

SlayeReyalS 05-24-2005 11:29 PM

and i still dont get how Dimmu Borgir are lame.

riseagainstrocks 05-25-2005 08:46 AM

cause they act like the are satanist, write poorley composed and cliched songs, and wear corpse paint.

Afraid to Say that doesn't mean $h!t....If you look at the member profile just about everyone in that band can play atleast 2 or more instruments (Eg. Shagrath -guitar,drums,synthesizer,bass and vocals....Mustis-synthesizer/piano, guitar, drums,Panflute,Violin,Harmonica and Quenflutes). Ok Shagrath (vocalist) makes himslef looking Satanic a bit much...with the Upside down "Anti Christ" cross around his neck, but so what. It's how they wanna look, they want to show what they think and believe. TO me Dimmu Borgir is a musically talented band. I don't care what other People say about My favorite bands, they appeal to me.

riseagainstrocks 05-25-2005 01:43 PM

no one is denying they are semi talented at their instruments. but the way they put them to use in their songs doesn't show of their instrumental skills. The orchestra parts are too overdone as well. but whateva

Who honestly would even SUGGEST that Good Charlotte is Grindcore, that's mental. That's extremely sad!

Do me a favor: go to the hardware store and purchase the largest pair of pliers you can find, return home, pull down your pants, and use that very same large pair of pliers to pull the enormous stick out of your A$$. I KNOW GOOD CHARLOTTE ISN'T GRINDCORE YOU POST-PUBESCENT IMBECILE. Thank you and have a nice day.

anyways, id first liek to tell you that if you're only interested in SP, GD, and MCR, don't listen to black metal. you won't like it. too good of music for you. second, your post goes below the quote. third, you didn't have to put your email on your post for any reason, you can just come back to the boards and read what we tell you. and last.... dont bother with black metal when you listen to SP, GD, and MCR. oh wait i already said that. whatever, you should read it twice anyway.
