^ Some great choices ^

Corrupted are insanely heavy. I'm not sure I have heard that one though.

good choice. a friend of mine recently turned me on to Gojira, any suggestions?

p.s. anyone who said Slayer - Reign In Blood... lawlz.

but pertaining to the topic at hand, id have to say that these are the heaviest albums ive purchased in the past few years:

Suicide Season - Bring Me The Horizon
Continent - The Acacia Strain
Hollow Crown - Architects
Controller - Misery Signals
Total Brutal - Austrian Death Machine

i have nothing against slayer, although Kerry King is one of the silliest dudes ive ever seen, but it just seems so common. it seems like wherever you go and mention metal there's always some one who has to obnoxiously throw up the "metal horns" and proclaim "SLAYERRR!!!" for all to hear. i personally think many more bands of that era did much better things for metal than Slayer did. just saying.

and this pertains to the validity of Reign in Blood as a great metal album how?

i don't know what you're talking about either, Slayer is perhaps the definitive thrash metal band behind Metallica, and they get **** thrown at them from all sides for being in the game as long as they have. and unlike 95% of the other bands from that era, Slayer's music (well, from Reign in Blood onwards) doesn't sound dated whatsoever.

death, thrash, grindcore, power, speed, black metal respectively.

hardly the same era, wouldn't you think?

agreed. they did have a sense of humor though, which was more than most thrash metal bands. Among the Living is definitely good, but most certainly dated.
