I've seen Clucth preform three times now and they only get better. Really good musicians who can play a good show. I cant really compare them to anything but if you want to give them a try go to [link removed]
If u have heard of them tell me what u think.

burnmonkey 01-18-2005 08:57 PM

Yeah, clutch is pretty dope! theyve actually ben around for quite a long time. Kinda that post-sabbath groovy stoner chaos thing with a just a spritz
of neil sedaka....yeah !!!!

Greg 01-19-2005 11:00 AM

Clutch are one of the best bands of the last 10 years. First heard of them when they had a single out on Earache. They played more straight up hardcore then and toured the UK with Biohazard. they've been on a few majors and always got shafted. The music has always been top quality more 'stonerish' with great lyrics. Live they can't be beaten.

Kentucky Woman 01-19-2005 02:00 PM

nope, never heard of them.

Highway_Star 01-19-2005 02:01 PM

Not heard of them off the top of my head - might take a look though!

:P

Greg 01-19-2005 02:19 PM

Recommend any of the albums. Plenty of long funky jams. Lyrics are very interesting to

itchytasty 01-19-2005 03:02 PM

Pure Rock Fury

Delirium 01-19-2005 03:05 PM

Clutch never really lets me down when they release an album. They really put alot of effort into it. I think anyone thas hasnt heard them give them a try.

TheBig3 01-19-2005 09:48 PM

Dude, we have one DJ here in Boston whos out of his damn mind and will play whatever he wants randomly.

5 years ago he played "shogun named marcus" and I pissed myself laughing. I recently picked up blast tyrant because "Mob goes wild" makes me want to pillage a small town.

TheBig3 09-29-2005 07:41 AM

This band is getting better and better in time to me, they seem to have lost the need to be scary and gained a more cohessive sounds while keeping the same socially aware, not-so-serious lyrics they've always had.

To me Clutch is a band that should be huge, that everyne should have at least heard of. I don't know why they or other great abdns like Drive-by Truckers havn't smashed through the mainstream yet but I surmize that both Clutch and DBT are rock bands in a day and age when there are no radio stations that play rock. Its either Classic rock, Alternative Rock, Or HardRock/Metal.

One station in Boston will play clutch, but I've read in places that the coastal stations are more receptive to diffrent things, and that in the mid-west Trapt and Nickleback still rule the radio.

If you do live out there, you can actually listen to our Hardrock/Metal station which, depending on the time of day it is, could appeal to anyone on here.

Back to my point though, Clutch to me Should be on par with System of a Down, The White Stripes, and whoever else is a massive rock band today. They don't dress as vibrantly, all their color is in their music.

[MERIT] 09-29-2005 08:15 AM

clutch kicks a$$!

MURDER JUNKIE 09-29-2005 11:08 AM

Clutch

For starters I am a huge clutch fan, one of my all time favorite bands, and there's no one out there like em so far. I have 7 of there albums and one vinyl of Slow Hole to China. I love everything they've made, from there angry angsty start, to there jammin blues style of today, and there just as spectacular to see live. So any other Clutch fans out there, or anyone out there not like them for a specific or any reason?

lucifer_sam 01-06-2009 09:39 PM

Their 1995 self-titled is fantastic. I love some of the riffs they create and the bass is infectious.

Agreed, but there is so many better stoner rock bands out there. Creativity, origonality, and overall sound wise.

Granted half of these bands had members that were in Kyuss or MM at one point.

I f*cking hate Monster Magnet. Nebula, Kyuss, even Fu Manchu I've learned to tolerate, but Dave Wyndorf will always be my emotional dartboard.

And I disagree. Clutch definitely had an original sound. It wasn't as massive as other stoner rock bands in the same era, but they certainly stand up compared to the rest. They didn't have to resort to downtuning, at any rate.

You should check out Colour Haze then. Unless you have already listened to them that is. They have an extremely good riff driven sound that is still "stoner rock" but stays far enough away from the sound of Kyuss FM and MM. Personally I like the album Periscope because its very dirty sounding in that production is kept to a minimum and guitars are given a muddy distorted sound.

mr dave 01-07-2009 01:33 AM

clutch is awesome when they're on but they have some duds too. the 'pure rock fury' album is pretty much all filler aside from the title track. the most recent one i heard, 'beale street to oblivion' was top notch from start to finish but 'jam room' stands as my personal favourite.

jackhammer 01-07-2009 06:26 AM

Any of you guys checked out Bardo Pond? A few here may like them:

Janszoon 01-07-2009 07:50 AM

I remember loving their self-titled album when it came out. I never heard any of their subsequent albums, but weren't they more of a hardcore band in the beginning and then they slowly developed into a stoner band? I remember thinking of them as kind of funk-ish hardcore back when I listened to them.

jackhammer 01-07-2009 09:05 AM

The stuff i have is definitely stoner, in fact the album I have is almost heavy shoegaze it's so laid back :D

I was just listening to some of the tracks off the self-titled on YouTube and it's actually quite a bit more mellow and stoner-ish than I remembered (I haven't listened to the album in at least 13 years). But there is still some more hardcore sounding stuff too. This was my favorite song on the album back in the day:

jackhammer 01-07-2009 09:34 AM

I was pertaining to Bardo Pond :D . That's cool anyhow as I have'nt heard Clutch!

I'm looking forward to that Bardo Pond album anyway though. :)

I completly agree with you my man. Beale street is great, although in my opinion some of the songs sound a lot alike it is still a great album through and through. And yeah pure rock fury is prolly them at there lowest but it still has its moments. I'm still tryin to find Jam Room, most of the albums i bought were off eBay.

mr dave 01-07-2009 05:14 PM

i hear you on the beale st. sound-a-like action. although i just take it as longer songs split into shorter tracks, like the first 2-3 songs barely register as separate tracks to my ears. my only real complaint is the political angle on some of the tunes, it's not as bad as some other 'grr-politics' tracks i've heard, just that it runs the risk of dating some of the material.

YES! Soapmakers is my favorite clutch song ever, such a great beat and tells an awsome story.

But seeing clutch live all messed up is the best way to see clutch, i know i was a WAY "lifted" when i saw em the second time haha.

jenkyfats 01-15-2009 04:02 PM

i saw them once and it was a real bad experience. it was at a sounds of the underground fest and there were all kinds of real heavy metal bands. then these guys came on while i was waiting for lamb of god. i got pissed cuz they sounded like a jam band and i wanted heavy. but i was young and dumb, i might appreciate it more now. probably not though. thumbs down.

Antonio 03-20-2009 09:24 PM
