I thought it was a great idea Maynard being in the shadows. His reasons are understandable how he doesn't want to show his face and steer away from the audience focusing on him rather than focusing on the performance. They don't want to attach personality to their music. I'm a really big fan of the cinematic aspect and how they framed it using the Golden Ratio graph. It was certainly interesting. I don't think the audience took much notice of that.

I have never seen Tool, but I remember seeing APC and getting there late, so only getting a ticket that was not the best when I looked at it. But when we went to our seats, it was right by the stage, and I could actually see Maynard the whole time. Better seats in that regard then being front stage.

I don't have comparison, but I can say it is still in the Top 5 shows I have seen. Was on the "13th Step" tour, Mars Volta opened for them.
Had such a great sound, and atmosphere. Plus I got to see Josh Freese and James Iha on top of that, so that was extra cool.

This Pitchfork review of Tool is both spot-on and hilarious:

![]() That's funny, and not just because I disagree. It's stupid low even for someone that doesn't like it.
