1.) Phish - For their interesting live performance ideas, improvisational nature, and cross-genre influences.
2.) Leonard Cohen - For lyrical purposes. Also, interesting guitar.
3.) Frank Zappa - Mostly for the guitar.
4.) Queen - Song structure and showmanship.
5.) Tiny Tim - Seriously.

1) My guitar teacher. He literally taught me almost everything I know, as well as being a great person, and teaching me how to apply theory to rock 'n roll
2) My older brother. I'm not gonna get into it.
3) My parents for the same reason as everyone else. They buy me stuff, cheer me on, and drive me places.
3) Buckethead for being my idol, and for teaching me how to make some good guitar-oriented music. He taught me what to do with nothing but a guitar and Sony ACID. Not nessicarily my favorite act of all time (there's many, MANY in front of him), but he taught me a lot. Electric Tears is still the album I throw on to calm me down when I'm nervous.
4) Guns 'N Roses. One of my favorite bands of all time, quite possibly my favorite. They got me into music. They also taught me how good music can really be. Up until then, I never had a song make me borderline cry like Estranged. I never heard an album that had a closer that was absolutley amazing, even perfect, but at the same time, make you want to say goodbye to the album, like Rocket Queen. I had never heard a song that made me go from relaxed to so revved up, I felt like I was a marionette, being forced to go absolutely crazy, like for most of Appetite for Destruction.
5) Muse. Even though they sound like Queen and Radiohead, there's still a third, pure, truly uninspired sound that you will only get from Muse and no other. (Ayo, from those of you who've only heard songs from their latest, I ORDER you to listen to Map of the Problematique) A sound that would be there if Matt had never heard music before. Muse taught me that no matter how great my music is, and how much I love other bands, I need to have my on sound like they have theirs. I need to work my riffs until it doesn't matter what music I listen to, because it's the sound I'm born with. Like an entire genre that isn't done by anyone else. THAT'S where the best music comes from. Not inspiration from bands, inspiration from life.

3. Black Sabbath - No Reason Needed.
4. Children of Bodom - The band that got me into Death Metal.
5. The Misfits - The band that got me into punk.
