Worst Genre

state your worst genre of music and why. sub-genres are valid. bear in mind that in order to hate a type of music, knowledge of it is helpful.

Urban Hat€monger ? 02-03-2005 02:52 PM

Dance music & Trip Hop seems to have gone down the crapper since about 1997.

There used to be so many great acts in the mid 90s ... Leftfield , Death In Vegas , Chemical Brothers ,Massive Attack, Portishead , Air ,Jilted Generation era Prodigy , Better Living era Fatboy Slim ect ect ect.

Now they`ve either turned crap (Chemicals , M Attack, F Slim , Air) Split up (Portishead , Leftfield) or moved into rock music (Prodigy , D in V)

Tommyrocker 02-03-2005 02:53 PM

Well, me, i like to think i like a bit of every genre.... i mean i dont really like rap but now again ill hear a song nd think, hmm maybe thats not so bad, like "ganstas paradise" and "Thugz mansion" still seem cool to me. Nelly and usher for R'n'B is occasionally appealing for me as well. What was the question again?........oh

P.S i love rock.

i think galvanise is a pretty good song. if i were to say i genre i have no time for it would be RnB. i wish i could be all nice and say "oh i like certain lements of RnB"..but i really dont.

I think Primal Scream make better Chemical Brothers albums than the Chemical Brothers do these days.

70s Stevie Wonder , Sly & The Family Stone , Hendrix , Micheal Jacksons off the wall album , anything with George Clinton & Bootsy Collins.

Granted most of that stuff is over 20 years old , but there ya go

Sneer 02-03-2005 03:00 PM

hendrix? RnB?

Yes , all the elements of his sound were taken from there , especially the Band Of Gypsys. And he came from that background before he formed the Jimi Hendrix Experience. He just appealed to a rock audience too.

George Clinton`s bands Parliment & Funkadelic made music just as heavy as Hendrix`s material yet they were never classed as rock.

I`ve always thought that one of the reasons Hendrix has always been considered rock rather than RnB is because he is a guitar hero & rock music is more guitar based than R&B.Not so much then but definetly now.

I`m not saying Hendrix isn`t a rock artist , but at the same time you can`t ignore that his music was based in R&B.

you can say that about all black artists i suppose- which is ok becuase essentially it is their roots. i personally see hendrix as more rock than RnB but i see your point.

Urban Hat€monger ? 02-03-2005 03:09 PM

The Rolling Stones were considered an R&B band when they started

Sneer 02-03-2005 03:12 PM

i think most rock n roll bands of the 60s got their influences from RnB and pure blues. thats how they started- by copying classic blues songs and adding rythmn

Sneer 02-03-2005 03:13 PM

^ i realise that sounded retarded.

Urban Hat€monger ? 02-03-2005 03:14 PM

Well I`ve seen Justin Timberlake described as RnB

What a shame such a mighty legacy of music with such a rich tradition has fallen

ArtistInTheAmbulance 02-03-2005 03:28 PM

Ok it took me ages to think about this, because there is obviously talent in every genre and there is something I like in each aswel... I think my least favorite would have to be general dance music, only because I cant find much variation in there. Im sure theres going to be a load of dance fans saying that each song is different, and Im sure it is, I just dont hear it myself. So Im sorry to anyone I offend by saying this, but ... There we go.

Urban Hat€monger ? 02-03-2005 03:30 PM

You mean 'General Dance Music' as in not the bands I mentioned earlier ... right ? ;)

Justin Timberlake and R&B shouldnt be used in one sentence.

Ha just realised that.. Well done me. But anyway yes, who you mentioned, but also all the really new stuff which I can hardly distinguish one song from the other... And when they remix older songs with a whole new dance beat. Thats just plain annoying. No offence to anyone though. I just have to think hard about whether theres any talent in it at all.

Urban Hat€monger ? 02-03-2005 03:38 PM

You can tell Dance music was in the ****

Basement Jaxx only had to fart to be given a Brit award for best Dance act

itchytasty 02-03-2005 04:39 PM

"nu"-metal

recycle recycle recycle recycle

TheBig3 02-03-2005 08:16 PM

First I'd like to point out that Contemporary R&B is nothing like real R&B, so don't think Usher or Boys II Men is the Barometer for what R&B is. There is nothing bluesy about anything they do. It's pop, end of story.

Ill throw out lounge, its occationally cool but whiteified swing jazz ain't my seen. Sinatra is supposedly the greatest, and I like some songs, but I mean, I know polka I like, but I don't know too many lounge songs I can say "man that track is jammin'"
:pimp:

mushroomhead1 02-03-2005 11:33 PM

i think the worst form of music on the planet would have to be pop,pop punk etc......

blackTshirt 02-04-2005 02:02 AM

dance, pop dance, house

kornslayer 02-04-2005 11:04 AM

Hip Hop :afro:

Urban Hat€monger ? 02-04-2005 11:06 AM

Of course the worst genre ever is Happy Hardcore.

I can find good things to say about pretty much all genres , except that.

ArtistInTheAmbulance 02-04-2005 11:06 AM

Not to be irritating, but he did ask 'why' at the beginning of this thread..

Sweet Jane 02-04-2005 11:12 AM

Hmm... Dance, pop dance and house can be really damn good, hip hop has its moments as well. I don't listen to jazz much at home, but I saw some amazing jazz shows in Prague, I really like seeing jazz bands live.

Happy hardcore - haha, listen to 'Children of the night' and 'Shooting star' and 'Raver baby' and no explanations are needed. Wow i can't believe i grew up on that crap.

ArtistInTheAmbulance 02-04-2005 12:30 PM

Sorry that wasnt aimed at you, it was to all the people who just named a genre and I wanted to know why. But I dont think Ill go listen to Scooter. I'd rather keep my hearing in tact thanks..

yeah, i like both of those band's first albums, actually.

the first bands that did it were pretty neat at the time, but after a while everything sounded the same, because the genre is just so... limited.

Are_You_Experienced? 02-04-2005 03:37 PM

Nerd-rap.

Squeaky-voiced MCs rapping about sci-fi nonsense = horrible.

ABSOLUTELY THE MOST ANNOYING GENRE OF MUSIC EVER !!!!!! Its like listening to a 130 bpm preprogrammed bossanova beat on a cheap portable keyboard set to the easychord function drudging on endlessly for all eternity!!!!!

Beckmn 02-04-2005 08:00 PM

R&b

Soundgardener 02-04-2005 08:12 PM

I personally like everything but country, the reason is simply that I hate the country singers voice. I also hate their lyrics. Someone show me a quality country song that means something, and maybe I'll think about changing my mind...

dog 02-05-2005 06:14 AM

im hate stuff like korn and slipknot, not my cup of tea.

Kurt_Cobain 02-05-2005 10:51 AM

Urgh Pop. Why do they call it pop. I know its an abreviation for 'popular' music, but what I mean is its not popular. Its new artist singing old songs that usually meant nothing to them or the people.

ur right

mindless screaming is not music

Kurt_Cobain 02-05-2005 12:32 PM

I hate slipknot. Bands like that are a waste of a record deal and a waste of musical instruments. When was it that people started thinking if your in a rock band you dont have to have talent?
Hey Beckmn are you part of music-fanatics forums. I think I know you!!

pianolp325 02-05-2005 01:12 PM

every genre of music is awesome except ambient drum and bass that is going no where musically. I had a paper to write and i went into this lil shed were a guy played a lap guitar with a metal ring and it sucked so bad and was boring and theirs like people that love this **** and its horrible. Other than that all music genres are good. There are bad artists in each genre but every genre has some kinda meaniing. Even pop and country.
