There may have been bands doing punk music before, but the first band that really was distinctly punk enough to be called a punk band, rather than a rock band, was the Sex Pistols.

Well, you see... you sort of contradicted yourself in that last sentence. You claimed that Link Wray is a contender for being an influence on punk rock, but then you contradict yourself by saying "his influence was in rockabilly, not punk." Which is it?

People are always going to disagree upon certain things, and with the creation of punk being a murky area, there will definitely be a few.
