Stone Sour
Stone Sour is a band consisting of vocalist Corey Taylor (Slipknot), guitarists Jim Root (Slipknot) and Josh Rand, bassist Shawn Economaki, and drummer Ray Mayorga (Soulfly). They've two studio albums to date, a self-titled one and one called Come What(Ever) May, they also have one coming out in September titled Audio Secrecy.
Here's a couple videos: Thoughts on this band?? |
I think they're great. Heard about them a while ago but never really got round to actually listening to them until I discovered they're supporting at an Avenged Sevenfold show I might be going to. Really different to what I thought they'd be considering I heard of them through Slipknot.
I only heard 2 songs from them:
"Through Glass" and "Zzyzx Rd." But I like both of them. |
"Bother" is a single I like a lot.:D

One of the few post-grunge bands that doesn't make me want to pour acid in my ears...
I like some of their stuff but I haven't heard much apart from singles. Some songs I despise though ("Say You'll Haunt Me" was a big part of why I quit listening to the radio) |
I'm sorry that I'm bringing back such an old thread, but due to their new album, I believe this is the best time to do it. I can't believe how unknown this band is in this forum. Like I've said before, I'm not a metal fan. Besides the 12-13 biggest metal bands such as Motörhead, Judas Priest and so on, I listen to only around 10 more metal bands as Godsmack, System of a Down, and Stone Sour is one of these bands. Corey Taylor, for me is easily the best musician from the last decade. So, here are a couple of songs from their new album. I hope you'll enjoy them.

dont really like there new album sounds to radio rock i tried i gave it like 3 listens .. but IMO there really starting to sound like a heavier version of chevell or Thrice or something like that
"Say you'll haunt me" is really good I think.

I really like Stone Sour's vocalist. I'd give the band a 8/10.
"Stone Sour" One of the better rock names of all time. It really rolls off the tongue though. :yeah:
I like Stone Sour more than most, if not all, other hard rock/metal bands that formed in the past 15 years (a terrible period for music, in my opinion). Corey Taylor has a good voice, and "Stars" is a great song. And, yes, it's a good rock band name.
I personally really like these guys. Their albums have a really nice dynamic with the whole melodic-metal thing going on. Although I'm also a fan of Slipknot's, I much prefer to listen to Corey in Stone Sour.
Brilliant band! Heard of them through Slipknot, and some of their songs are my overall favourite songs: 30 30 150 and Bother are brilliant. They can go pretty heavy and...doom and gloom...but their softer stuff is beautiful. Corey Taylor possibly has the best voice ever (at least in my opinion), perhaps because it ISN'T perfect. Perfection is ugly.
So yeah, I'm new here! Nice to speak to people who like this kinda music :) |
My boyfriend loves metal and this has been the only metal gig I’ve been to, I really enjoy their music and absolutely love Corey Taylor but found metalheads can be wankers to the non-metalheads at gigs.
Not sure what you're on about. Metalheads don't go to Stone Sour gigs.
My research tells me ICP and Slipknot is actually the same band. So people at Stone Sour concerts must be members of the juggalo gang. Sorry, "family".

Has Stone Sour had ANY other hits besides "Through The Glass"?

Slipknot ****ing suck and Stone Sour are... kinda better? Kinda worse? Garbage. Yes, garbage will do.
I'm no Slipknot fan by any means but in no dimension is Stone Sour better.
I like Slipknot. They are my poppy watered down version of what you like, Batlord.
I don't like Slipknot or Stone Sour either, but Slipknot's disowned debut album Mate.Feed.Kill.Repeat. is a fantastic album that sounds like a different band. Death metal, funk, and lounge jazz all in one song:
Nah their debut is just as corny. There are some decent cuts off of Iowa imo. Stone Sour is basically just Staind. They use acoustic guitars because they're serious and very mature.

Yah, I’m out of my depth here. I just like their music :thumb:
The Slipknot debut is semi-interesting but they ape Mr. Bungle's musical eccentricities too much for my taste.
Edit: Now that I think about it, it actually reminds me of when the members of A7X did avant-garde metal with the short-lived band Pinkly Smooth, though if they were more successful than Slipknot in the endeavor I'm not sure. It's not exactly played perfectly or produced well either. |
Slapping together disparate genres and filtering them through a heavy lens stopped being avant-garde after Naked City did it.
Stone Sour are just a poor man's 10 Years.
I forgot how snobby this place could be

I feel like they've somewhat got their own sound. I'm not really into it though, but I guess if I owned a label, I'd sign them.

There is some snobbery on MB. It's all about how you treat what you don't like and especially those who do like it.
So long as you actually dislike something and aren't just pretending to or telling yourself that you do then snobbery is perfectly okay and hella fun.

Go for the ball, not the player. That's where I draw the line.
You live in Soccer Land. I live in Amerikhastan. Over here you have to go through the player to get to the ball.
