Dokken has a great voice, being able to hit a wide range of notes. Motley Crue's singer sounds like a ten year old girl who accidentally stepped on a nail. Heh, just kidding, it's all good. Everyone has their preferences. I agree that the band was kind of inoffensive, which is why George Lynch forced them to step up their metal game with "Tooth and Nail", and it works really well. Harmonies alongside solid guitar work, but without the synth/soft keyboard stuff they usually loaded their songs up with. Give it a shot, you might at the very least find that it wasn't a complete waste of time.

Even though Motley Crue were far more essential, I actually like some of Dokken's material.

George Lynch for the win!

And Yngwie Malmsteen was a guitar god who couldn't write an interesting song to save his life. Just because Dokken's singer could sing doesn't give him any more personality. Say what you want about Vince Neil as a singer, but he was the embodiment of sleaze.

I'd take Too Fast For Love & Shout At The Devil over anything Dokken have ever done.
Who cares if Vince Neil can barely sing a note, it's hair metal, not opera.

But it's true! In a blind taste test, nine out of ten Americans prefer Dokken-Pepsi over Motely Coke! Not to mention that Crue's bassist was technically dead during most of their career, and nobody could tell the difference.

He overdosed, broke out of the hospital, overdosed again, and then turned it into one of their best songs. That's the beating heart of rock'n'roll right there.

Motley - 1
Dokken - **** off

And Dokken didn't need excessive drugs to deal with life. That is called independence, also known as the "true" heart of Rock 'n Roll.

Motley - 1
Dokken - Isn't even bothering to keep score, too busy rocking

When Aerosmith were filthy addicts, they were one of the greatest rock bands in history. When they got clean, they recorded "Janie's Got a Gun".

Drug bands - 2
Suckass non-drug bands - so lame they should start playing polka
