Have you even heard the whole goddamn thing or just the single version?...
You also need to check out some of Wakemans solo stuff, as dull as the actual music may be, his skills on the keys are a unavoidable highlight, i can tell you with all of my heart, he is better than Rudess.
I've seen a live version too. And I already told you my disgust for Wakeman. Especially his solo stuff. He's only better than Rudess at pointless showing off and playing two keyboards at once (something Rudess could obviously do but doesn't).

Well its great to know that your tastes have evolved to appreciate the likes of Dream Theater and Dragonforce.
My tastes evolved enough to get into rock in the first place I must say.

How were you able to measure his range?
Used a keyboard.

Oh?... So even though Wakeman has actualy showed more capablity than Rudess on pretty much everything he plays, including piano, keyboards, organ, moog, mellotron, etc and even though he has had an output of over 50 solo records and a huge discography of work as both a sideman and a session player... Rudess is still better just because you say so?

You're pathetic.

I have seen the guy play organ with one hand and moog with the other, soloing on both instruments simultaneously, thats pretty damn far from easy.

You can call him a pompous, pretentious asshole (like many have before) if you want to, but you cant deny the fact that he is a talented pompous, pretentious asshole, much more so than Rudess in my opinion.

Prog bands are rarely known for their ability to rock, DT especially dont rock.

Get a new keyboard.

No he hasn't, Rudess' work in LTE eclipses everything Wakeman has done. And Rudess' solo in LSFNY is beyond anything Wakeman could play. And his composing in "Blind Faith" is untouchable.

This means nothing when we're talking about skill.

You know you're not sure, because you probably havent listened to a whole Wakeman record, let alone ALL of them, not that i can blame you, his "everything including the kitchen sink" approach to music is difinetely a aqquired taste, but with as much body of work he has under his belt (Over 6 times more than Rudess) you're bound to find a musical piece of his that blows Blind Faith and Acid Rain out of the water.

And why was he such a wanted session player and why has he worked with so many well known musicians?... Because he has a cool variety of cloaks?... I dont think so.

So have I.
Show me a link of Rudess doing the same thing, if you dont mind.

I haven't heard all his work but I've heard what's regarded as his best. And no, it didn't really come close to Rudess' best. The guy is in a class of his own.

Because he's in perhaps the most recognised prog band in the world?

I said he doesn't do it because he doesn't need to show off.

He was already doing tons of session work before he even joined Yes.

And Pink Floyd are the most recognised prog band in the world, not Yes.

In other words you have NO proof.

Yes I would also say PF. That's why I said "perhaps." But I was talking about from a musicians point of view as well.

PF are still not unknown... And even so, i dont recall Richart Wright having done as much work as Wakeman, hes simply one of the most skilled keyboard players around, and it was him along with Emerson who helped establish the roles of keyboards as a lead instrument in rock music.

I'm pretty sure Rudess was writing on a notepad when he was listening to Close To The Edge and Fragile.

Keyboards have never been a lead instrument. Wakeman and Emerson helped establish a role somewhat in prog rock, but you can't really be called prog without a keyboard player I guess.

Not true, King Crimson rarely used Keyboards... And they usually stuck to just mellotron and a little moog.

And they didnt somewhat establish it, they DID establish it, they're the two most influencial keyboard players in prog, and im sure Rudess has some very positive things to say about both.

And keyboards ARE a lead instrument for some bands, especially ELP and Yes... We also cant forget The Doors and the great Ray Manzarek.
