I don't think Led Zeppelin is overrated, if anything, they're very influential.

Marc Bolan (T. Rex)-20th Century Boy should be the anthem for glam/hair rock/metal.
You cant put all the blame for (Glam) on Steven Tyler (Aroesmith) alone. I do agree with everyone that Aerosmith has played a major role in helping to establish the genre.

I see bands like Quiet Riot and Twisted Sister as being one of the first actual Glam/metal bands.

i quite like a fair bit of hair metal, really

but it's basically devoid of any artistic merit, except maybe for Skid Row's Slave to the Grind and Enuff Z'Nuff
