I'm not bashing Nevermind for the sake of it. I don't like the album. I'm a little offended that you guys think I would bash something without listening to it.

Nevermind is a decent album. "Lithium", "Come As You Are", and such are good songs.

Albeit, it's really plagued with the fact of half of it is Nirvana's polished poppy MTV sound(Come as you are, Smells like Teen Spirit), and half of it is their earlier unpolished punky sound(Breed, Drain You). I honestly feel it sounds unfinished, and relies too far on the few sparkling moments, where as the rest of it is frankly kind of mediocre.

Plus I ****ing hate "Smells Like Teen Spirit". It is an ok song maybe the first one or two listens, but lacks any depth to discover anything on listens beyond that. Furthermore, it's been crammed down our throats unfairly as "one of the greatest song" songs of all time.

...how the hell did this thread become a "grunge" discussion?

Yes, I'll agree Lithium is a good song. The rest? ehhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

Of course it lacks depth, it was basically a pop song. That was the point. All of the songs on Nevermind are supposed to be easily accessible pop songs, even grungier tracks like Breed and Drain You.

Well, first of all, Bleach is Nirvana's best album.

Second, who in their right mind would take Guns N' Roses over Dokken or Scorpions? I mean hell, even Ratt were sleazier.

Well when I say Appetite is in a different league I wasn't really talking about quality, I was talking about impact. I mean personally I used to like both Appetite & Badmotorfinger and I've not listened to either in about 10 years so as far as quality goes I'd rate them about equal.
As far as impact goes Appetite is one of the most successful debut albums of all time and turned GnR from being just another LA bar band into being a household name in just over a year. No Soundgarden album can really compare on that level.

I'm missing out on what your point is. Maybe I'm annoyed in general that we're rewarding songs for having no depth.

Besides, Led Zeppelin is proof something can be popular(IE pop), and have worlds of depth.

I don't know if they were sleazier or not but Guns 'n' Roses were definitely better than all three of those.
