Cool A wave of Irish metal is about to break onto the scene!!

Ireland has, for years, shown no promise with regards to modern metal and its only claims to fame internationally in popular music to date would be U2, the script, thin lizzy and enya to name a few. But recently bands on websites such as reverbnation .com , facebook and myspace have emerged with some great quality demos! bands such as PHENOTYPE, CENSURA, RED ENEMY, HERO IN ERROR and SINS OF THE WORLD have come forth with some interesting takes on metalcore/american metal and hardcore and have each produced new and individual sounding albums!.. yet why have they had no luck in blowing up on the european or international scences??!!!

And you're here to promote these bands or the website which promotes them?

they've most likely not received enough notice yet to gain recognition, plenty of bands have blown up on the net though, JFAC just one of them

Wouldn't be too sure about that, the likes of Gama Bomb, Primordial and Cruchan managed to build up a reasonable following both at home and around the world.

Probably because, there is a lot more competition due to more and more talented bands emerging than back in the 80s/early 90s and that Ireland is a difficult place to make it big...we are not renowned for producing big metalcore/hardcore bands....

The original poster was referring to metal in general. The reason why we're not producing big metalcore/hardcore bands is because metalcore and hardcore is more of an American cultural thing rather than an Irish one.

The obvious problem is of course the limited market, but bands can easily travel to or move to the UK or mainland Europe to play to a bigger audience. But the main problem i see is that Irish metal bands are too busy trying to replicate bands like Metallica, Slayer and Pantera rather than develop their own sound. The reasons why bands like Primordial and Cruachan managed to build a following in Europe and around the world is because they integrated traditional influences into their sound, such as scales, chord sequences, folklore and even instrumentation. This is what makes them original and stand out among international metal bands and metal fans around the world buy into this.

While not really metal, the irish post-rock/punk/instrumental/whatever-band And So I Watch You From Afar is damned good. Even less metal, Cast of Cheers. I've never really thought of Ireland as having a big metal scene... Not with that horrid stuff called U2 being so closely associated with irish music.
