Who's your favorite non-AC/DC band that sounds like AC/DC?

I thinking bands like Krokus, Saxon, Accept and I don't know who else.

Colby4780 04-30-2011 10:27 AM

Airbourne, damn good band.

They're alright. But all their music pretty much sounds alike. Even more so than AC/DC. After a while, their music just sort of starts to blur together.

King_Matt 05-01-2011 04:49 PM

Accept is the only one I can think of.

EvilChuck 05-01-2011 04:51 PM

Do Saxon really sound that much like AC/DC? I havent listened to too much of either in all honesty, but what I have heard there is a significant difference, the only song I can recall that you could make this argument for is Wheels Of Steel.

Insane Guest 05-01-2011 10:37 PM

I saw Airbourne last year, if I closed my eyes, I could have easily mistaken them for AC/DC, I actually think they're better though. A bit faster, and a bit heavier.

I don't really hear to many similarities between Saxon and AC/DC.

Maybe later AC/DC (post For Those About to Rock) that came after the Saxon stuff I'm thinking of... but yeah, fair enough, Saxon is more Priesty if anything.

The Saxon argument raised by EvilChuck is probably relevant to this band, but:

TANK!

Wonderful band. Motorhead with bluesy riffs. Judas Priest after getting quadded.

My favorite album by them is "Filth Hounds of Hades", but "This Means War" is a great album as well. Good soundtrack for creating a hangover.

Stress-Pass 05-04-2011 08:37 PM

Airbourne are great. I heard of these guys a while ago but it wasn't until I picked up a copy of "No Guts, No Glory" that I truly loved it. Honestly the first time I heard these guys I thought it was a revamped AC/DC.

Howard the Duck 05-05-2011 12:05 AM

Motorhead?

Oh, come on. You can't be serious. Motorhead has been around nearly just as long, playing music that bears very little resemblence to AC/DC. I'm sorry but I just don't see it.

I have to agree, Accept is one of the only band that could blatantly rip-off a band like that yet still be pretty badass. I think out of the hand full of bands that directly derived their sound from AC/DC's, Accept is the most noteworthy.

Yep, and they're about 10 million times better than AC/DC too.

Hipper. Trendier. OK. And Lemmy's a kool kat. But AC/DC has those hooks that you can hang your hat on. If Motorhead had 20 more aces of spade then we could seriously compare the two.

Actually I think they both have around the same number of classics. AC/DC is the more instantly accessible band, but they are both around the same quality. And I'm not as tired of Motorhead as I am AC/DC, but it's only a matter of time I fear.

I have no idea who is trendier. I just know there are very few AC/DC songs I like while there are tons of Motorhead songs I like. And "Ace of Spades", though decent, is far from their best.

almauro 05-05-2011 06:44 PM

The one thing AC/DC and Motorhead had in common, no effin ballads. I was never really too crazy about Accept or the Souza era Exodus, because they reminded me too much of the one and only, Bon Scott. When I hear those bands, all I want to do is drop in "Highway to Hell".

Tank are awesome but sound nothing like AC/DC and never have. Motorhead definitely but I won't hold that against them.

Saxon? WTF (NOT your post BTW!) not a chance.

If anything they sound like souped up Chuck Berry to me. AC/DC that is.

I don't know. I think Tank really claim the sound they have; sure, it shares a lot with the Motorhead formula, but it's still distinct. Especially on "Filth Hounds of Hades" - that album has a sound that's recognizable.

I can agree that Motorhead is a better band, but I just don't think they sound that much like AC/DC, not enough for this conversation anyway. I just don't see how 2 bands playing rock music in the same era automatically makes them comparable.

Unknown Soldier 05-09-2011 07:46 AM

Not a big fan of either band but Motorhead offered a lot more than AC/DC ever could.

AC/DC were always a more simplified Led Zeppelin with their basic riffs and in original singer Bon Scott, they had a great vocalist that pulled them through. When Brian Johnson came in, they settled into a boring formula that`s hardly changed in like 30 years!!!

I love Motorhead to bits but they have barely changed their sound over the years either! In fact they have got steadily worse over the years. Their latest release The World Is Yours is absolutely unforgettable.

Don't get me wrong. AC/DC have churned out some absolute crap in their time and I have never been a big Brian Johnson fan but If You Want Blood is still one of the best live rock albums ever and Bon Scott's double entendre humour is classic.

Howard the Duck 05-10-2011 11:03 PM

AC/DC is awright but for bands that churn out the same album for 20 yrs, I'd rather listen to the Ramones cos that one album is brilliant......

The live album is the only cd that I own of AC/DC, for the simple reason its one of the best live albums ever recorded!

Last great Motorhead release was "Orgasmatron". The few albums that I`ve heard of since then, seemed to be seriously treading water and instantly forgettable, but still slightly more interesting than AC/DC.

Its just a case that old boys such as Motorhead, AC/DC and Black Sabbath etc just don`t know when to finally hang up their guitars and call it a day:laughing:

I love to pick and choose Ramones songs to listen to. But listening to an entire Ramones album just gets boring half way through.

My thread has been used for sin. The Ramones are GODS and anyone who has ever felt bored listening to them should be punished.

Definatly Airbourne

That's true, and is probably the only time I've ever seen anybody compare Motorhead and AC/DC.

Howard the Duck 05-11-2011 07:53 PM

truth be told, i don even like AC/DC much, cept for Back in Black

as if I could be arsed to check out any clones of them

Buckcherry

(Aside from Buckcherry's frontman Josh Todd's voice sounding similar to Bon's) They sound dirty, mean, and musically very similar to AC/DC.

Josh Todd has certainly got that Bon Scott sound. Buckcherry were a kind of a mixture of AC/DC and Aerosmith style hard rock anyway.

OccultHawk 05-12-2011 05:21 AM

I saw Buck Cherry open for Kiss and they sucked.

New member here..I'm sorry if i am resurrecting an old thread, and as a first post at that, but i was browsing the forums, saw this and just had to reply to it.

A few bands not mentioned that sound like AC/DC..

Rhino Bucket
Kix
Heaven (The singer had a very Bon Scott like voice)
Jackyl
The Four Horsemen

Wanted to say Britney Fox and Cinderella, but i think they sound more like each other than AC/DC.

I think Cinderella is a good choice. Ratt and Krokus are two from the same era and genre.

my-name-goes-here 01-05-2012 10:07 AM

how about this guy.

Mark Tornillo now from Accept would have to be a close sounding voice to Brian Johnson, more so in the song Teutonic Terror than others. As for a full band sounding like AC/DC i'm not touching that or someone that sounds like Bon Scott simply because i don't have a favourite, that said even Mark Tornillo isn't a fav just someone i heard that's close. For me no one can come close to really impressing me other than the real deals.

If you are on about the early stuff with Bon Scott and the first couple of albums with Brian Johnson I would recommend the Krokus album Rock the Block, anything by Rhino Bucket and even ABCD (great piss take band from eastern europe with tracks like "attack of the perfumed turd"). Personally I don't care too much for Airbourne and as for Accept - I've just listened to a few tracks - the guitars etc may be remotely similar but the vocalist isn't in the same league (let alone division) and completely ruins it for me. These are just my opinions so many of you will disagree, but I am sure there are a few of us old rockers who feel the same.

Vertigo 05-30-2012 01:22 PM

I like AC/DC, it's all harmless fun, even if it is repetitive. The best thing for me is listening to Angus play, such a glorious sound.

I was going to say that the only band that I've heard where there's a kind of passing resemblance is The Answer, but on second thoughts they're more like a Zeppelin kind of band.

The lead singer's got the whole Robert Plant's estranged child look going on too..
