Would you be open to variants of black metal such as melodic black metal, folk black metal, blackgaze, etc.? I don't know your tastes.

A good starting place for anyone would be Darkthrone's album "A Blaze In The Northern Sky". That's really one of the quintessential albums of the genre and one that kind of started it all. Not to mention it's pretty damn good.

I am open to variants, but I will say I tend not to like types of metal that have words like "melodic" or "folk" associated with them. I generally like my metal pretty heavy or noisy or more on the experimental side.

Eh. Honestly, that's the kind of stuff that hasn't really done it for me in the past.

Wolves In The Throne Room are the only (post?) Black Metal that I own. They are pretty damn good. Also got two Alcest albums - but they just aren't metal.

If there's any chance of you liking melodic black metal, you must try either of Dissection's first two albums ("The Somberlain" and "Storm of the Light's Bane"). They are two of my favorite albums of all time. They blew me away on first listen.

But given your preferences, perhaps try Deathspell Omega's "Paracletus" or Lunar Aurora's "Andacht"? Those are some really heavy black metal albums. Weakling's "Dead As Dreams" is atmospheric black metal yet is very powerful.

If you're interested in black thrash, there are some great acts like Absu, Destroyer 666 and Sarcof@go.

Sigh is very experimental and avant-garde but not all that heavy. They are truly great though...they change their sound with every album. Arcturus too are very experimental but not particularly heavy.

Not sure if I know your music taste or not, and I'm in the same boat with black metal but Lonesummer do it for me.

They're kind of just weird and raw.

I think you know my taste.

I like it! Is that considered blackgaze? It sounds really different from other black metal I've heard.

I have a Solefald album and have never been able to get into, but I like this song a lot more than I remember liking that stuff. I'll have to give this some more listens.

I also liked the Blutmond track. Not sure it knocked my socks off, but it had some really great moments and seems like something that could grow on me.

This was pretty great I have to say. Would you say this is their best album?
