StH, actually. Yes, it's overplayed, but no amount of over-exposure could make it worse than that mess of a Queen song.

I could bore you with all of the books, interviews, etc. I read about Jimmy and Zep. I've never come across anything to back this assertion up.

Just a small sampling....

He could said both things in two different interviews, phrasing what he said as how he felt at the moment. It's not like they are two opposing statements. Yes, he probably did put the Tele down after receiving the Les Paul, but he could also said that he didn't need the Tele for its sound after he had the Les Paul mod cause it produced a similar single-coil sound - paraphrasing of course cause I don't have the source material in front of me at the moment like you do.

Joe Walsh: Jimmy was still playing the Telecasters that he played in the Yardbirds. He was looking for a Les Paul and asked if I knew of any, ’cause he couldn’t find one that he liked. And I had two. So I kept the one I liked the most and I flew with the other one. I laid it on him and said, ‘Try this out. He really liked it, so I gave him a really good deal, about 1,200 bucks. I had to hand-carry it; I flew there and everything. So whatever my expenses were, that’s what I charged him. But again, I just thought he should have a Les Paul for godsakes!

Jimmy Page: As soon as I played the Les Paul I fell in love. Not that the Tele isn’t user friendly, but the Les Paul was gorgeous and easy to play. It just seemed like a good touring guitar. It’s more of a fight with the Telecaster but there are rewards. The Gibson’s got all that very stereotyped sound, maybe, I don’t know, but it’s got a really beautiful sustain. I do like sustain. It relates to bowed instruments. Sustain speaks for itself, that’s the whole thing. It’s the whole are that everyone’s been experimenting in, once it became electric, if you think about it – it was mainly sustain.

Jimmy’s second 1959 Gibson Les Paul Standard – aptly dubbed “Number Two”. He bought it in England shortly after the 1973 U.S. tour, but didn’t use it on stage until January 1975, when it was brought out on tour as a backup for the Number One.

His Number Two had switches for series/parallel and phase switching. Four push pulls were also installed to add the ability of coil splitting each pickup and the option of putting all four coils in parallel. The wiring mods were all done by engineer Steve Hoyland.

Number Two is visually distinguishable from Number One by somewhat darker finish, and overall more “brownish” look.
hmmmm.
