You absolutely must get Ritual. It is far and away their magnum opus

i need to d/l that - it's not in the stores here

Miasma I thought was a bit overproduced, and there is a lack of clarity of riffs - too many overlaps

That's my problem with them. They're a phenomenal band, and they destroy live, but on record, they come off just a little too polished.

Also, while I'm not a huge fan of brutal death metal, Suffocation needs to be mentioned and I don't think I remember them getting a nod yet, so...

"Pierced from Within" is one of my favorites in the style. My favorite Death Metal song is "Depths of Depravity". I love the production on that record so much, I have search for albums with a similar feel, but I have yet to find one I can say sounds like that record.

Funny, my one problem with Pierced from Within is the production. It sounds too clean to me. Like they were trying to make sure you could here every note. The song writing is just phenomenal though. Brutal death metal is usually just a randomly thrown together series of riffs and blast beats, but that record had some actual class. For me their best was Effigy of the Forgotten. That record is just so unbelievably dense and the vocals are just inhuman.

The Karelian Isthmus is among the best metal albums ever recorded.

One of the most epic dm albums I've ever heard.

You really thought is was that great? I thought Tales From The Thousand Lakes as an improvement over it and the classic Elegy to be their finest moment as a band, but I suppose their debut is probably the most straight up death metal they ever put out.
