Wasn't a fan of that Mordred album. Naked City is one of the most diverse, exciting albums in any genre. My vote goes to Naked City.
Mordred - 0
Naked City - 3

Will be listening ASAP... this battle looks excellent.

Naked City - 4

Not because I liked it better, but because it didn't bore me

This battle is very interesting, just gave In This Life a listen, have been listening to Naked City without any aide from this post. Can't seem to stop replaying that album.

I found In This Life to be boring, I won't go into specifics because there was nothing memorable to cite. Naked City, on the other hand, is my favourite John Zorn composition behind Spy vs. Spy and IAO, so that is where my vote shall go.

Naked City-5
In This Bored Life-0

Mordred's getting its butt kicked here and I'd say there are still a lot more votes to come in yet! I thought I was doing it a favour, pairing it up against Naked City instead of Celtic Frost.:yikes:

Eh, Celtic Frost is fantastic, but nowhere near as brilliant as Zorn's madness lovechild Naked City.

It will make for an interesting showdown because Celtic Frost are one of the most revered metal bands on the forum.

I only put Mordred in because I wanted people to checkout the album! Yes the singer isn't the greatest and it doesn't sound very dynamic today but that is because you have heard the same sound regurgitated but years later. Imagine it's 1991 (yes most of you were barely alive) and Mordred throw this album out there. Apart from Anthrax doing their thing with Public Enemy nobody had really heard this sound at all and they did it well.

Against the other albums I put up it probably doesn't stand a chance but when someone starts spouting about early Nu Metal you can now throw this at them because it is almost certain they haven't heard of it before.

As for the Sacred Reich bashing :( Surf Nicaragua is one of Metal's greatest E.P's and they didn't sound like many Metal acts out there and that is a big factor. It is a little disheartening to hear many Metal bands of the last 10 years or so and not recognise any individual qualities. Metal is a little like RnB to that extent a lot of it lacks individuality.

I should have put Sleepytime Gorilla Museum instead of Mordred maybe.

But, The Real Thing came out in 1989.

Apart from the track Epic the rest of the album is fairly straightforward and sounds even more dated than Mordred even though I am a big FNM fan. The use of turntables and samples on the Mordred album hadn't been heard much before in Metal.
