Default Metal Wars!!!!!!!!!!!

I think its about time that we had a "Metal Wars" thread on this forum to run in conjuction with the "Album Wars" thread in the general music section so I`ve decided to start this thread. Now and again metal albums were selected in that thread, but due to the lack of people interested in metal on there they never got that many votes. Now I know there are plenty of metalheads and metal devotees in this section to make it work so PM me your choices.

Basically it will work the same as "Album Wars" but featuring just metal bands or hard rock bands and nobody else! The battles can be a 2 album head to head or a 3 album head to head battle and the whole thing is always more interesting if there is a link between the albums that somebody chooses, for example death metal, 70`s metal, alternative metal etc.....there are a multitude of metal genres out there to choose from. The battles will last 3/4 days depending on how many votes they get etc.... So PM me your choices and I will put them up on a first come first served basis, with other peoples choices joining a queue. If nobody sends me their album selections then I`ll nominate the albums.

So get sending your choices to me by PM. If anybody is not familiar on how these battles work check out the "Album Wars" thread to see how it works

First ever battle on here is courtesy of The Batlord he of the armpit fetish. Its none other than a NWOBHM showdown between two of the best albums of the genre. Good choices considering that a NWOBHM thread has just gone up today. As always when placing your vote, take a few lines to say why you chose the album.

Iron Maiden Iron Maiden

versus

Saxon Wheels of Steel

I love Saxon, and especially Wheels of Steel with a passion, but Iron Maiden's debut is just almost perfect. It's rock, punk, and metal in all the right places. So, Maiden for me.

I like this thread. I have not listened to the Saxon album, so can not vote at this time, but I doubt it will live up the perfection of the Iron Maiden album. As Batlord said, good mix of Rock, Punk and Metal... I really enjoy Paul Di'Anno's vocals.. I think he was great.

I will trake a listen to the Saxon album at some point at get back to ya. But I have a feeling I already know it wont live up to the Maiden record.

Yeah, you can't go wrong with early Saxon. They've got some of my fav riffs of all time. The song "Wheels of Steel" still makes my head bang ten years after I first heard it.

Very tough choice, both are top contenders for my favourite NWOBHM albums but I think I might have to go with Saxon on this one. If it were which band I preferred it would have been Maiden without a doubt, but as far as Maiden albums go, my love has always been Killers and onward, because that's how I went about listening to their discography. My opinion of the band was already cemented when I came back and listened to their self-titled album, and while I enjoyed it immensely, I was already a big fan of the band and I think that spark was lost. When it came to listening to Wheels of Steel it was something new for me and ultimately left a greater impression. Saxon wins by virtue of being the first one I listened to.

Iron Maiden - 2
Saxon - 1

Time to place my vote here as well and to be fair The Batlord summed it up perfectly, as I also love the Saxon album with a passion but the Maiden album is perfect with its punk and metal mixture. Had Saxon come up against any other metal album of that time period I`m certain Saxon would have won.

Same here. I heard Killers before the debut and it is still probably my favourite Maiden album and I heard Saxon at virtually the same time with both Wheels Of Steel and Strong Arm Of The Law getting plenty of listens.

Maiden's debut is much raw sounding and obviously has some classics: Prowler, Phantom Of The Opera etc but the production wasn't great (something the band have always stated) and it lacks a little cohesion to me but then I much prefer Strong Arm Of The Law to Wheels Of Steel from Saxon even though Wheels Of Steel has the magnificent 747 (Strangers In The Night) on it. I will have to plump for Maiden. Just.

Iron Maiden 4
Saxon 1
