Oh my, an entire thread devoted to Metallica's biggest commercial hit of the 1980s? Wow.
I did learn how to play the intro to the song in between popping my zits back then so I guess we may as well discuss it..
Good song. It's quite emotional and historically significant in the beginning. Then it gets heavier and heavier. Great song for mildly rebellious teens .. even to this day apparently.

I was never good enough to play the whole guitar solo. I think I could've easily learned the amateurish drumming though, if that was my instrument.

Its a good song to get you into the genre itself, and it is undoubtedly a fantastically composed song, but I wouldn't say it's the best.. But like I said, definitely a good song due to the popularity and sound to get you into listening to metal. Like the bread and butter of it. Ya dig?
