I'm digging this album more than the next one, Versus the World, which was kind of boring at times. I think they may have crossed over a bit too far with that one and lost too much edge.

Amon Amarth is alright, only album I could ever really get into though was With Oden On Our Side and maybe a few songs here and there from other albums. I mean... ****in Cry of the Blackbirds and Runes to My Memory.

"Death In Fire" is the ****ing **** though. Versus the World is worth the price for that song alone.

heh, I've been listening to Amon Amarth all day. With Oden is by far the best but the other 2 mentioned above are also good.

It seems to be the trendy, elitist thrash metalhead thing to do to claim that Pantera ripped off Exhorder. Aside from being bull****, this means you'd then have to hate just about all the bands you claim to love that sound much more like Slayer and Exodus than Pantera does Exhorder.

Epic doom about Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu's short story Carmilla (early vampire story)? **** yeah.

Like a less (pseudo)intellectual version of Celtic Frost with a singer who sounds exactly like Cronos from Venom. Considering that my biggest issue with the Frost is Tom Warrior's singing this makes me very happy.

It's because Phil Anselmo's most prominent vocal style with Pantera is so influenced by Kyle Thomas', which is like saying that Pearl Jam is knocking off Iron Butterfly because Eddie Vedder is obviously doing his best Doug Ingle.

Most thrash and groove metal bands sound pretty similar to each other. Those guys are borrowing from power/speed metal, who were borrowing from bands like Black Sabbath/Deep Purple, who were borrowing from bands like Cream/Hendrix, who were borrowing from electric blues bands, and it can go on and on and on.

Besides perhaps 80's black metal I can't think of a form of extreme metal I like better than death/doom. Too bad there are so few bands that do it. I guess besides funeral doom the genre just hasn't really shown that it has anywhere to go. Regardless, this song kills.
