I only listened to it a few times but it bored me for the most part. I might give it another chance soon since I might be on a bit of a Slayer kick atm. And on that note...

I think I've finally played out Reign in Blood, so I'm going back to my old favorite, Hell Awaits. The riffs are more sinister, the atmosphere is far more evil, and Tom Araya's vocal performance is just gloriously menacing. Slayer's first two albums and Haunting the Chapel are definitely my favorite period of theirs.

Human Remains shred like a wood chipper, super heavy/brutal with out of control proto mathcore technicality and chaos. Deserving of much more recognition

I know it's not exactly metal, but **** it, this deserves to be in this thread.

It's amazing how it didn't even take a year for Black Sabbath to begin heavily influencing bands. I've been on a kick of digging through "proto-metal"/heavy psyche stuff from the very late 60's and early 70's. So far, the earliest band that was definitively heavy and didn't have any residual psychedelia in their sound is Iron Claw. This song, Skullcrusher was recorded by them in 1970(!), and it wasn't released until the late 2000's as part of a compilation of the 15 or so songs Iron Claw recorded over 5 years until 1975.

One of the band members has youtube videos of Iron Claw playing War Pigs and Fairies Wear Boots two months before Paranoid was released. Apparently, the guys in Iron Claw went to Sabbath shows and recorded the concerts and then went back and just learned the songs by tape. You can even hear them singing the original lyrics to War Pigs. I'll throw those versions in the spoiler.

Spoiler for Iron Claw played War Pigs and Fairies Wear Boots:

Can Brazilian carnival 80s metal really compete with the French metal of the same period?

Awesome band. I've kept The Spoiling of Beauty on many a playlist over the years:

I spent most of my shift at work today thinking only of Slayer. Not just Slayer songs, but Slayer in general. It saved my sanity.

Oh, and btw, all those Brazilian ***gots can't begin to **** with Reign in Blood or Hell Awaits. Only boring elitists trying to sound like special snowflakes claim otherwise.
