Rob Dukes wasn't a GOAT frontman or anything and it's a no-win situation to follow Baloff and Zetro but he had copious amounts of attitude that still came through when he was screaming his head off and it worked for a band like Exodus. I say underrated.

And brutal **** like this makes me wonder why anyone looks to Vektor as being the leading light of modern thrash. Vektor can suck my dick, this is one of the most badass songs ever recorded and shows that Pantera and Machine Head never quite had the right idea in mind for post-thrash.

Atrocity Exhibition is okay but in no universe does it surpass any of Vektor's albums. Exodus hasn't been outstanding since 2004 imo.

The Batlord 11-12-2018 05:38 PM

Vektor has always been boring as ****. Exodus was making crushing thrash godliness upon the day of their reformation and kept on. Tempo of the Damned, Shovel Headed Kill Machine, and Atrocity Exhibition A (at least, I haven't listened to their later stuff as much) were everything that thrash should be in the new millennium.

Vektor is like the idea that the stereotype of thrash could still be cool if you just ignored that a few decades had happened and tempered your expectations for a retro band. 2000's Exodus allows for no nostalgia and simply smashes you in the face with a sledgehammer and eats your broken teeth. **** Vektor.

I have this track on one of my go to playlists for work. It totally gets my nuts on tingle.

AFAIC Exodus perfectly bridged old and new school metal with their reformed albums and I can't think of any other band, new or old, who can touch what they've done. Even Slayer could only nip at their heels with Christ Illusion.

Bonded by Blood is still the absolute jam btw.

As far as new albums from old school thrashers go, Helstar and Overkill have been the best. Their newer albums are among the best albums from the 2000's, they keep what made them so awesome in the 80's while keeping things fresh.

Seriously, thrash in the current century doesn't get better than this:

With that said, I do really like Vektor and Exodus' newer albums are pretty decent. Neither can compete with the aforementioned bands though.

OccultHawk 11-12-2018 05:51 PM

I really like Christ Illusion too

Now that I think of it I was jamming this song really ****ing hard back when I was still a neo-con twat. Not entirely sure how I reconciled this with my politics but I know full well that I only cared about just how hard this killed.

This whole album is a blast. Still power metal, but with a fun Ozzy Osbourne-esque aesthetic to it (Ultimate Sin-era)
