More black metal

Prog metal from the UK (who thinks he sounds like Sean from Diamond Head?)

Gotta love a band with this album cover! Can't find anything by them though... Heh! It's a pretty bad Photoshop job, innit?

and some epic Doom to finish up

Quite possibly the first death/doom band, these dudes sound more like Hellhammer when they slowed down (as in "Triumph of Death") than Asphyx or diSEMBOWLMENT. Pretty much doom metal with the aesthetics of black metal. I ****ing love Necro Schizma. They're so primitive and ugly and evil and absolutely glorious. Too bad they only released one demo, but what a ****ing demo.

Pretty cool sludge metal with a bit of punk influence.

Nine times out of ten, a gothic doom band trades riffs for goth. Non-goth doom bands just have better riffs than their goth brethren, and that's just a rule of life. The Gathering are not aware of this rule. And they do this while having a chick singer instead of a second-rate death metal one.

^ The Gathering were pretty amazing back when Anneke van Giersbergen was with 'em. I love her later contributions to Devin Townsend's works, but kinda wish she'd go back.

Anyhoo, revisiting a late 80's US Power metal classic tonight...

Definitely not my fav Viking-era Bathory album, but I certainly approve of the sentiment.

Yeah, I enjoy it a lot. I am something of a rarity for Bathory fans as far as I know, I prefer their Thrash and Viking much more than I do their black metal, which is borderline heresy from whom I've talked to about it haha. I think their last two albums were some of their best, Blood Fire Death is my favorite by far. Though I think twilight has some of the best instrumentals.
