Virgin Steele followed up the Noble Savage album with something completely different in the shape of the very commercial sounding Age of Consent, an album which gave vocalist David DeFeis another opportunity to expand his vocal range, this album may not appeal to a lot of people due to its heavy AOR slant but there is some excellent shredding by guitarist Ed Pursino.

Well, that was a very interesting experience. I think you were right about identifying the AOR aspect of it, too.

I'm trying to think of a similar band, and the nearest I can find is this:

And by the way, that sig quote is fantastic. Brings back many happy memories!

The whole thread was quite a spectacular disaster. I think the OP shocked me a little: http://www.musicbanter.com/general-m...i-hendrix.html

King Diamond's singing actually drives me nuts and I can't listen to him for more than one song at a time Even though his music is not classed as power metal, his voice is operatic enough to be suited to the genre and most definately David DeFeis has a King Diamond feel to his voice.

That was a great "shut your face Unknown Soldier" quote from Eraserhead, not sure if it was from the Buckethead v Hendrix thread or the Dream Theater one

Indeed, it's certainly a feat to be able to listen to a full album all the way through! I think the strain he puts into it is quite disconcerting, but the dramatic effect I think is quite interesting.

Haha, oh god yes. His vocals actually remind me of this guy quite a bit:

I really can't shake that image when I listen to King Diamond's music.

Spot on, you could have a different classic quote of his for every day of the year and still have quotes left over.

Oh man, you don't know Elmo? Just watch a little bit of this video and you'll understand the King Diamond comparison (it's also just a funny video anyway).
