Loving this thread so far guys, starting to get into power metal and this has been a great learning tool so far, cheers
Has anyone by any chance heard of Dungeon? They are an Australian power metal band, i THINK they have recently split, but have been around the Aussie metal scene for quite a few years. Sorry for the poor quality video, but youtube does have a limited supply of this band. Check it out guys if your interested EDIT: sorry can't post links yets, but go to youtube and search Dungeon - The Art of War for starters

No I've never heard of Dungeon, but see they have a lot of stuff written about them on wiki, will be sure to check them out. As far as I'm concerned the best heavy band out of Aus were Buffalo who were around in the 1970s. |

Some great stuff came out in 1996 and yet again Iced Earth didn't disappoint with The Dark Saga, a concept album about a man who sells his soul to the devil (yep this is a highly original idea from a metal band As usual Jon Schaffer laid down the tracks and Matt Barlow belted out the vocals.

The crunching guitar intro to this song is fucking A and Matt Barlow sounds like a more wayward James Hetfield.

My least favorite Iced Earth album. The music was just dumbed down and horribly melodramatic. Before they'd combined 80's Metallica with Iron Maiden, but now they were combining 90s Metallica with a parody of their earlier sound. This actually used to be my favorite IE album when I was younger, since it was definitely their most accessible, but over the years I have just lost all interest in that album.
Burnt Offerings, Horror Show, and Something Wicked This Way Comes were vastly superior if you want to get into Mat Barlow era Iced Earth.

BTW just finished listening to the first Omen album Battle Cry and its some great early 1980s metal, sure its Maiden influenced but the band are talented enough to pull it off in their own style, J.D Kimball was a good vocalist but sadly died back in 2003.
