Some people make careers out of Planking. For me the craziest guitarist i ever saw live would be Tony Macalpine. Dude thoroughly dominate at NAMM one year. I thought his hands were gonna catch fire. And just when you think hes going full wank fest, he can settle it down and provide a total atmospheric change.

I got into the whole Shrapnel Records artists for a while (late 80's early 90's), but have since gone down a different road, with the exception of Buckethead, for everyday listening. Just too much of a wankfest, and it doesn't impress me like it used to. But yes indeed, MacAlpine is a beast.

I really only listened to Macalpine and as you said it really doesn't register like it used to. As I get older I appreciate a more subdued approach to playing. I've always been more of a band guy then a solo guitar outfit thrown together with session guys in general. Doesn't discredit how good some of those guys can be, but I find a different type of cohesion with regard to guys that always play together and remain together.

Hey, speaking of NAMM, I'll be at the Nashville show in July, meeting up with an old Army buddy that still plays. Any chance you could make it?

I wish. I hit Anaheim every year though. my work is incredibly busy or I'd seriously contemplate it. This years show really has leaned toward the future. Lots of amazing acts and I got to meet some heroes. How are you getting in? You know somebody or are you a vendor of some type?

My friend has a friend with a vendors license. I'm not sure of the details, but he's the one that invited me, and he's a solid brother so I'm pretty sure I really won't have to do much but just show up.

I still ride in on the coattails of Fender. We've been friends with Mike from Fender since he stayed at the Hotel I used to work at. He calls me every year and says I got two at will call for you, see you at the booth. Real solid guy, downhome from Texas. Even got us vendor passes to see Van Halen at a special party. Grab those picks man. LOL I literally grabbed a couple hundred in January.

I'm pretty sure thats how it's gonna work out though, tickets at will-call and all. I've never been to one, so I'll be like a kid in a candy store. I'm really just excited to see my old friend. He's in AZ and I'm in IL. Last I saw him was in Germany in '89.

...and I'm running out of picks atm. I only have 3 sitting in my "studio" that I somehow manage to hang on to where ever I take them. I hope they last until July.
