Naturally I wish I was old enough to have seen Layne when he was with the band but William was pretty good. They played a great combo of old and new songs and the audience was really involved which was cool. The only problem I had with their set was that something about their sound set up was off. The guitars were overpowering William's voice on about half the songs. I could tell it wasn't William lacking power in his voice because on classic songs like Dirt and Man in the Box they came through just fine. The set was at Verizon Wireless in Indy which isn't great for sound so it could have been that or just a shoddy job by the road crew. I'd def see them again though, preferably in an indoor setting. If you haven't had a chance to see them you def should next chance you get.

I saw John McLaughlin and the Fourth Dimension last November. He's in his mid 60's, but damn he can still play. The rest of his bands was great too. They played a full 2 hours and a 15 minute encore. Without a doubt the best show I've ever been to.

Best band live for me has probably been Opeth back in 2005. Their drummer at the time (Martin Lopez) had a panic attack and flew back to Stockholm, leaving the band in Vancouver without a drummer. Long story short the band got Gene Hoglan to drum with them for a few shows and I managed to catch one of those shows. He really owned all the songs, just this big fat guy swigging beer while drumming. Plus I was underage and still got in, that was pretty cool for me.
Worst show... is sadly The Police in 2007. They had no chemistry onstage together. In fact they pretty much stood still, at least 20-30 feet apart from each other on this big stadium stage. Not only that but they turned all their songs into these long winded 9-11 minute pieces that just totally destroyed the flow. To add insult to injury, I saw Danko Jones the night before at some sweaty club in the industrial district of San Francisco and they were more fun to watch then The Police. |
best was ahmet and dweezil zappa
|
Alexisonfire were definitely the best live band I've seen. The worst would likely be some Christian version of The Black Eyed Peas that played at Canada's Wonderland in June called Group1Crew.
|
worst was britney spears
|
Simple Plan ><
Journey is good i love the oldies |
While quite a few bands are good on record but disappointing live, I remember the German band Nektar as being the reverse : they put on a great live show when I saw them at Surrey University, but the only record of theirs I bought just didn`t capture the same excitement :-

Best: The Chariot
Worst: Baroness opening for Metallica, thankfully Metallica and Lamb of God were both incredible. |
Best: Phish, System of a Down, Queen + Paul Rodgers, Kenny Loggins, Dark Star Orchestra, Andrew Jackson Jihad, The Queers, and Gov't Mule.
Worst: Nickelback. |
^ Are Nickelback bad live?

I was just like, "Yeah, that was necessary." And their mixing was awful. Couldn't hear anything properly, and I was right in front of the mixing board. Utter balls. |

Best
The Mars Volta '07 at Terminal 5 in NYC - This was my second time seeing TMV but the first time seeing them headline with no opener. I can honestly say that while being one of my favorite bands, their live videos on youtube did not match their studio work. This show however defied all of my doubts and I really can't put into words how it made me feel. usually I'm a mellow person who likes to soak in the performance instead of going crazy in the crowd but something cam over me that I can't describe. I went a little too crazy because I broke my glasses and had to walk home with my buddy blind as hell through the streets of NYC. I felt like Hellen Keller cause I was blind and deaf from the concert. Awesome experience though. Also... Godspeed You Black Emperor '11 at Terminal 5 in NYC - Funny how my best two concerts happened to be at the same place. Again, not many words to describe my feelings here. I've never been to a louder concert. You could not escape the sound. It penetrated you. I'll rememebr for the rest of my life GYBE playing "static" while the projection screen behind them displayed the scenes of an factory fire for 20 minutes. As intense as a concert could ever be. Worst While the music wasn't that bad, I was so disappointed seeing red Hot Chilli Peppers. This was right after they released Stadium Arcadium and they played at the Continental Airlines Arena in New Jersey. The whole thing felt like I was at a Neil ****ing Diamond concert the way that there were old people everywhere singing while the lyrics displayed on the JUMBO screen. It was the chilli peppers that I came to see but what do you exoect when you go see them at a venue of that size. Their intimate shows are over. Besides that every headlining band I've seen has been the right choice. Some opening bands though failed miserably, but I didn't go to see them They include... Tapes n Tapes Darkest Hour Digitalism Minus the Bear (like the band though) Various bands that have opened for my friends band. |

Good- Marillion at the Edinburgh Playhouse in December 87 (one of the last concerts with Fish) I even got his autograph after the show!
Not so good- Rolling Stones at Murrayfield in June 99, the sound was awful and I was miles away from the stage. |
best: U2
worst: britney spears! |
Best: Either Phish, Monster Magnet, or System of a Down
Worst: Nickelback; I booed them, and got thrown into a mosh pit, yet held my own because I knew I was right. Granted, at the time I was mainly pissed that Chad Kroeger was drinking alcohol blatantly, in spite of ordinances...but I feel I made the right choice in booing the **** out of them. I was like, 14 or something. |
Best:
Nirvana: 'scentless apprentice' was totally loud live! Van Halen: Good before Eddie got too alcoholic, plus Eruption rules live! Danzig: Dude is just like in the live 'mother' music video! Dinosaur Jr.: Believe me, J Mascis can play a guitar live! Worst: Stabbing Westward: Saw them opening for KISS, just really boring and uninspired, not surprised they broke up since they basically suck. Lacuna Coil: Cristina Scabbia is alright as a vocalist, but the rest of the band just kind of lets you down. Like they need a little more *omph* as I would put it. Onto the comments: Quote:

One of the highlights was when he did a solo keyboard medley!... that started out with 'delirious'! (Song best known for being in one of the 'cheech and chong' flicks) ( Delirious (Prince song) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia ) Quote:

Best - Pearl Jam by far
Worst - Placebo and Skindred... saw them both at Sonisphere 2010 I don't like Benji's voice live at all and I son't know whether I think he is putting that Jamaican accent on or not. Placebo absolutely RUINED All Apologies |
i think the best was Deftones, Coheed or Azaelia Banks. Worst must have been Tribes or Octane OK.
|
Best must have been QOTSA. Homme has great stage presence and the set was killer (self-titled in its entirety and then the hits)
Worst was easily Oasis. Girlfriend at the time dragged me to that one |
Best: Matt and Kim, Death From Above 1979, OFWGKTA
Worst: Weezer, Eminem |
Wow, you saw Nirvana, slatesphanboi? That's awesome.
Best: Buffalo Springfield, Tool, The Dead Weather, Buckethead, Bob Dylan, Ray Manzerak and Robby Krieger, Gregg Allman. (I'm sure I'm forgetting some that are worthy of mentioning). Worst: 311, Incubus, Modest Mouse, Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros, Eminem (Didn't stay for whole show, though. Didn't see anything worth staying for). |

The opening acts were the Melvins and the Breeders. Like I would be happy to just see either of those bands all by themselves... and then to see Nirvana after that... YES! :tramp: Some one taped it back then (and it sounds really good, just like how it sounded) and has been kind enough to upload one of the better songs of it to youtube! http://i1100.photobucket.com/albums/...2-16981544.jpg http://i1100.photobucket.com/albums/...e/12149303.jpg |
Best (so far): AC/DC, Lamb of God, Slayer, Pathogen, The Haunted
Worst: Mastodon |
Best for me: Meshuggah, Soundgarden, Gwar (because of their theatricals)
Worst: Cradle of Filth ( love the music but Dani is horrible live) |
Job For A Cowboy were the worst band I have ever seen. Utter garbage and I have seen some crap in my time.
|
Best - Alexisonfire, Streetlight Manifesto, We Were Promised Jetpacks
Worst - IllScarlett |
The best live band I have ever seen is Muse. I have seen them performing three times. One time in a small stadium and twice in a park. I liked the second and third time the most because there was fresh air and there is a relaxing festival mood. At the first concert I almost fainted because of the heat. The first gig took place in Brussels, the second gig took place in Nijmegen and the third gig took place at Werchter Boutique.
The first and second concert was during their Resistance tour. I really liked it that they performed exogenesis part 3: redemption. They play really well live and I would recommend everybody to see a performance of them. The voice of Matthew Bellamy is unbelievable. He is a great musician and very talented. I loved it when he played on the piano. The intros of each song were very fascinated and I liked the improvisations. I was very surprised that Chris and Domenic played Nishe. I think only the real fans know that song. The décor was nice but not overwhelming, but I didn’t mind that. I rather listen to good music than look at a spectacular show. The third concert was at Werchter Boutique. The stage was amazing! They used a catwalk. This concert was more spectacular than the other two concerts. They used the robot of Unsustainable that was very cool. They used actors and acrobats. When they played Blackout I was really amazed. I didn’t expect that they would play such an old song. But it is one of my favourite and every time I hear it I get the chilling. I have to admit that I cried during the performance because it was so beautiful . they also played Unintended, which is also a beautiful song. |
Worst was Neil Young without Crazy Horse. It was so bad that I got up and walked out in the middle of it because I couldn't take any more of it.
Best was ZZTop on their Eliminator tour back in '83. |
I'm not even a big fan of them but NIN at Woodstock 94' was a pretty bitchin' show
They were really heavy live. Most of the songs I didn't even recognize. Hope I don't offend anyone but probably the worst was this band called Burnt Offering. They weren't even that bad, but they opened up for every Chicago show I went to for a while. Obituary, then Kreator/Coroner, then a Forbidden/Sacred Reich show. They would never be listed on the bill either. We'd be anxious to see the local opener and every damn time, "Burnt Offering"... Then you'd hear a wave of moans and swearing sweep across the crowd...lmao. The really weren't that bad, I just saw them live way too many times when I didn't want to. |
Man, so many good ones. Guided by voices, SRV, gang of four, Replacements. One of the worst was probably Brian Jonestown Massacre.
|
Paramore at Leeds fest 2012 - aweful.
|
Best: System of a Down
Worst: Raggabund (srsly. those guys were just awful. That's the problem when bands have only 1 good song.) |
Best: Killing Joke, Ann Arbor, the Dirt, Extremities, and Various Repressed Emotions tour. At the Nectarine Ballroom, a concert that brought in some of the mightiest music that trendy place could ever get. Jaz was great, and everyone else were at top form as well!
Bo Diddley - a concert in 1989 at a club in Downtown Detroit. This was in support for Breaking Through the BS and it was a classic gig. Seeing a Legend that will never let you down in a good club in Downtown Detroit...yeah! UK Subs/Broken Bones - May 13, 1988 at a disused Porn Theater called the Harbor on Jefferson Ave. in a suburb just south of Detroit (which used to be a first run place), seriously giant sized with a balcony and crumbling down - no better way to end my Punk Teens and Early 20's with this kind of show. There was another Punk show soon after but sadly I did not catch that, but this time it was The UK Subs on a stage that has seen a lot of strippers go on and off. Thankfully I stood up all the time - who knows what was on those seats! |
