Default Torche

No thread on these guys? They're great, pretty much Mastodon meets bubblegum pop. Stoner/sludge with gorgeous melodies. That said, each new release seems to be drifting further from the stoner/sludge tag.

A few tracks sport genuinely good guitar melodies, but the vocals are pretty godawful. Too much high pitch whining... yeah, whining is the right word.

The production on that album is godawful, as well, but it seems like all the bands in this genre or movement have ****ty production.

EDIT:

This song has good production. Why'd they have to switch to the horribly compressed sound?

WHAT. This is not real, I didn't know people liked, knew, or would ever want to say anything good about.

Has anyone ever gone to see them? I went to see Coheed and Circa Survive in Central Park and Torche opened for them. I thought it was a joke, they were horrible live, and I couldn't wait for their portion of the concert to be over.

I'll listen right now to some of the studio recorded **** they have, but I can honestly say they were the worst band I have ever seen live. And I feel like I've gone to enough concerts and have seen enough bands of this sort to be able to say something like this.

I feel like you would have probably enjoyed their set more if you were familiar with their music. But it is possible they are a sloppy live band, I've never seen them so I wouldn't know.

Nah, I'm definitely used to seeing bands I don't know. It doesn't really have an effect on how I feel about the performance.
They were just so bad. I have no other way of explaining it. All I could do is laugh and try to ignore it... and wait for it to be over.
Horrible.

Listening to Meanderthal now, I really like it. Kinda sounds like if Kyuss and Fu Manchu had a love child with Rwake. Concerning their live performance, unless they're habitually bad on stage, I'd chalk it up to just them having an off night. For instance, Cage the Elephant by far are the worst professional band I have ever seen play. That being said, I still don't mind their studio work and have heard others say they were competent live. Just playing a little devil's advocate here.
