However, as Kurt Cobain once said, the lyrics are the least important part of the song.

I agree.

As for the topic......some people can listen to screaming music and hear every word. When I first listened to A7X I heard almost every word. Just like any other band I woudl first listen too. You hear a song over and over and you learn the words. Screaming, humming, clicking, you hear it all and remember. Some can hear it better than others is all.

Uh... New Zao is ok, but old Zao had some of the most terrible vocals I think I have ever heard, next to maybe Cannibal Corpse. Anyway, Vocalists I respect and think their screams are completely understandable,

#1 Howard Jones - Kill Switch Engage
#2 Uh, guy from As I Lay Dying, His are hard to understand, but he has a friggin wicked scream.
#3 I love Shane Told's scream from Silverstein... That band isn't metal by any means... It is screamo, but I love that guys scream, check him out.

Black Metal is worse than all that emo...I can understand what they say in Black Metal, so I can understand basically anything, and if the words are so important to you, get the lyrics online, or in the cd sleeve...
But if you wanna learn how to speak scream listen to 'In The Nightside Eclipse' by Emperor, and when you can understand every word on that album you've got it...

the "high" and "low" parts are one guy...

though the guitarist occasionally contributes for some vocal parts.
