Default Rock on ye Irish!

I've already covered, and am continuing to cover, extensively in my journal the rock music of my native land, but for those of you who don't or haven't read my journal (I expect your excuses on my desk Monday morning, and they'd better be good!) I thought I'd start up this thread, since no-one appears to be doing anything similar.

In this thread I'll be covering Irish rock and metal acts past, present and, er, future, but only the more widely unknown ones, so no Lizzy, Gallagher or the like. Hopefully I'll manage to introduce you to some great bands you have never heard of.

Like to start off with two bands who are now sadly gone, but while not famous even in their day are still a big part of the overall makeup of Irish rock music.

NO SWEAT

Possibly one of the first Irish AOR acts, NS were well ahead of their time, their sound very polished and professional, owing a lot to the fact that Joe Elliott of Def Leppard was so impressed with them that he produced their only album. They ended up with a number one single in Ireland with "Heart and soul", but though it also got into the UK charts it did very poorly, and they never emulated the success of their hit. They split in 1991, and that was that, end of the dream. But for a while there they were riding high, and it seemed like fame beckoned.

WINTERS REIGN

Another great Irish rock band, more in the mould of heavy metal than AOR though, Winters Reign were another band who gigged like crazy but just never made it. But they had some great songs. Apologies for the quality of some of these videos: you wouldn't believe how hard it is to even find footage of some of these bands!

What would be your style? There's a hell of a lot of diversity here in the Emerald Isle...
