The Reasoning

I found this band about a year or so ago when I was looking for bands that had around the same sound as Nightwish and Within Temptation, gave them a listen, and now I listen to them every so often. It's gotten to the point that I really should listen to them as much as I used to, because I often forget how much I love the mixture of the vocals with the instrumentals. I do find them to be your typical female vocalist band, but I do love the effort that they try to be a little proggy sometimes, not so much that it's obvious, but just a little bit.

Adverse Camber (2010)

I was first exposed to them with Adverse Camber (2010), and since then, it's been a mission of sorts to give each album a full listen to see how they either differ or compare. Some great hits from that album include:

I'm currently experiencing my first listen to Dark Angel (2008) and as I would expect it, it starts out really strong with:

Will give my opinion on the other albums in this thread as I listen to them.

To finish off, by far one of the better bands that I discovered last year and will continue to listen to in years to come. Also a little eager to hear how they sound to others as it sort of excites me when I name a new name to people, gives me a bit of joy, secretly.

Yo my man, watch for a review of "Dark angel" on "Bitesize" soon. I've had that album on my PC for ages now, and since you're talking about them I may as well go give it a listen. Like or loathe it, I'll review it and hopefully have it up in the next week or so.

Ciao!

Damn! The longer I converse with you on the forum, the more I see that we have very similar tastes in music. I love that!

I was giving Dark Angel a listen a week or so ago, and I enjoyed it from start to finish. For me, it was a bit choppy in some places as compared to their 2010 release but still very good nonetheless.

The opening track was done very very well and on first listen, it was a great way to start it. I would have listened to the rest regardless but I love getting that little push at the start that makes you remember why you're listening to the band in the first place.

I still like Adverse Camber a bit more, but this one takes the #2 slot in terms of album quality for me.

I think you'd take a liking to them Janz. They have a nice subtlety between the vocalist and the instruments. Unlike a lot of other female fronted bands i've found i.e. Nighwish and Within Temptation, the vocalist is the main focus, which is okay but it can get boring. The Reasoning has focus on everything, plus her vocals are pretty fantastic.

If you say so I'll give them a shot.

After listening to Dark Angel and finding a lot of enjoyment from it, I decided to find Awakening and see how it is, and it is currently at a good standing. The opening track "Awakening" is easily one of my favorite opening tracks that this band released so far. It's a little proggy and starts off with the male vocals and introduces the female vocalist about a minute or two in the song.

As I have said before, this band is a must listen for anybody who enjoys a bit of prog and a great set of pipes. I'm genuinely enjoying listening to all their releases.

Extending on my previous post, i'd like to point out that this is probably the best song on the entire album. With one full listen, I am surprised that I have a few favorite songs already.

The Reasoning - Shadows of the Mind - YouTube

And yet another climbs into a land of comfort and calm
Safe in memory, secure in familiarity
And who’d have thought that today would bring you
darkness
The past becomes a burden now
and it’s hanging over you

But hey I’m fine
Yes I’m okay
But the devil on my shoulder still chips away
Hey I’m fine
Yes I’m okay, yeah

I am the fear you deny

And yet another direction falls before you
and turns into blind confusion
and into dark seduction
Whatever happened to turn your life upside down?
Dragging you down, spinning you around
What is casting the shadow that engulfs you
and suffocates?

I am beside you and within you
forever ahead or just behind
I’ll be the emptiness inside you
I am the shadows of your mind

Live the dream inside you
Don’t you leave it all behind
Show me all the secrets
to the shadows of your mind

Show me, heal me
Touch me, feel me

Shadows of the mind are disturbing you
(devil on my shoulder)
I am the fear you deny
Shadows of the mind are disturbing you
(devil on my shoulder)
The voice of your silence and lies
Shadows of the mind are disturbing you
(devil on my shoulder)
Truth in your open eyes
