Worst/most comical/most embarrassing metal band

I'll third that. I don't hate them, and can even enjoy them, but with Tarja at least, they were just a novelty act. "Hey, there's a metal band with a chick opera singer!" was pretty much how I was introduced to the band, and they didn't turn out to be any more than that.

The only point I was trying to make (which I thought at the time wasn't a big deal) was that the two were not similar enough to use in the same comparison. How can a band be "trying too hard to be" 2 different bands? That's it

Two bands that sound very similar and happen to be considered huge influences on the genre that would come to be known as "nu metal" having a noticeable impact on Slipknot's sound is really that hard for you to come to terms with?

Anyways, my last say in this is that Slipknot sounds like late Sepultura/Soulfly, and rehashes the same basic ideas to create albums. I don't think Slipknot is the exact same as anything with Cavalera, but especially on S/T and Iowa they definitely sound like they're trying to copy. If they were exactly the same, maybe I would like them, and not view them as poser metal.

I think the recent theme of mixing in tons of clean vocals makes them so jokey lately.

The worst thing I can find about a band is trying too hard to be something that they're not (yes posers). I feel that Slipknot is the worst kind, not just by their image, but through their music. That's where my harsh statement came from. Also I do hear the similarity in Soulfly (however worse they've made it) but I'm leaving this as a stand alone comment.

It's funny when someone makes a disapproving statement, they seem to point out towards your personal experience as a just reason when they have absolutely no idea about it.

Not sure about most of the new(er) stuff, but bands like these always made me cringe:

Slaughter
Kix
Trixter
Firehouse

Billed as Metal, but really just absurd Hair Band crap that sold to all the sheep willing to fork over $$ for "the next big thing". Ug. Makes me wonder how the people that were in these bands feel today. Take someone with the integrity of... lets say Dave Murray, and lock him in a room with the singer from Kix, and have them each play one tune of what they think is their best material. I think the singer from Kix would be scratching at the walls to escape.

If anything, Slipknot's first two albums have an unmistakable resemblance to Korn's early work, not Cavalera's work.

Bahaha I totally forgot about that. He even did a nu metal version of Ice Ice Baby. Poor guy... There was just no coming back.

On the topic of Sepultura, I honestly never put Roots under the nu metal tag. I guess now that it was mentioned, I can see how people might say that... Especially if it's the first Sepultura album you've listened to, but considering their other output I still don't think it is. It could be said that St. Anger was trying to be nu metal, but people are hardly calling Metallica nu metal. At least Max continued his nu metal tendencies with a different band.

Now I want to listen Chaos AD.
