What band first got you into Metal?

Iron Maiden was the band that first got me into Metal. My Uncle introduced me to them with the "Best of the Beast" CD which he lent me around 2005 when I was still quite young. I fell in love with the songs Hallowed Be Thy Name, Fear of the Dark, The Number of the Beast, and soon went out and listened to their whole discography. I'm grateful I was introduced to Iron Maiden, because it started me on my way to explore the whole Metal genre, which has come to be my favourite genre of music.

Edit: I guess I'll also add in what my first Metal band was for each new sub-genre I discovered too.

The next sub-genre I started to explore more was Thrash Metal, and as with many others who know Thrash, Metallica was their first band for that, and so was mine.

I then started getting into Power Metal with the helps of Guitar Hero and Dragonforce, though I'm less interested in them now than I am Iron Maiden or Metallica, and favor Power Metal bands more along the lines of Blind Guardian now.

I then got into harsher/extreme Metal in the way of the Melodic Death Metal band Children of Bodom. After which I got into regular Death Metal with the band Death, and Folk Metal with Ensiferum. I finally started getting into Black Metal a little over two years ago with the likes of Watain. I guess in some ways the final frontier for me was Avant-garde Metal, where I discovered my favourite band of the genre by the name of Sigh.

There are many other smaller genres I was introduced to, but I think I covered the main ones I still enjoy today.

Metallica.

I kept hearing them been brought up like all the time, and so I used this weird new application called iTunes to look them up.

When I first heard Metallica, the Walkman was the hot high-tech device for portable music. Not that I had one, they were pretty expensive.

Deftones got me really into metal. I had listened and or been around metal scenes and shows most of my life but never really had an appreciation for it. Before Deftones I was an avid grunge fan if you will. Artists such as "Nirvana" really had me hooked. My first Deftones song was "Change" it wasn't heavy or anything in the riffs.. however I liked it and listened to more. When I heard "Hexagram and Bloody Cape" I knew there would be more bands like them. Deftones opened me up into the metal 'world' and I am grateful for that. So many doors have been opened up.. and I can gladly say I am a metal head.

"Cemetery Gates" believe it or not is the only Pantera song that ever caught my attention. Are there other works similar in composition to "Cemetery Gates" that you might recommend?

Definitely Static-X. I'm a 90's kid all over. I don't listen to them as much as I used to, but one of their songs was in this n64 snowboarding game I used to run the **** out of and I fell in love. Keep in mind I was really young at the time, so I'd pretty much only been exposed to christmas songs and Spice Girls.

Wait, I just realized I was not correct earlier.

It was not Metallica that got me into metal. It was this.

THROUGH THE FIRE AND THE FLAMES WE CARRY ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

God me and my friend played the hell outta that game!
Still have guitar hero btw.

Metallica's "Kill em all", Megadeth´s ''Killing's my business...and business is good''.
And Iron Maiden´s "Iron Maiden"

I still prefer the Paul D'Ianno albums over the Bruce Dickinson albums. But I really like both. Bruce is waaaay better at singing though.
