10 years on

There are some bands that survive when the momentum of the movement that spawned them dies out, In our life times we've seen the chilli peppers, pearl jam, tool and green day survived a fad that killed hundreds of lesser bands. Even the great old acts never die as you can still see Skynard, Sabbath, The Doors, Queen and the Eagles if you have large enough pockets (not so much in Skynards case, you just need a ticket to the county fair) but the post grunge era has already seen most of its base disipate. Maybe tomorrow emo and neo-wave will watch theirs fall as well.

What bands recording today will survive their own sub-cultres death?

I would say one band we don't talk about much on here that will is Incubus. I don't want to list all the bands i think, i just wanted to pose the question, and then threw out incubus because 1.) I wanted their influence to be discussed and 2.) didn't want to piss of Hatemonger by not answering my own post.

well, love them or hate them, oasis are still going despite britpop dying out in the 90s. the white stripes will carry on strong after the garage rock fad succumbs to a new trend in music- primarily because the band is actually bigger than the genre. new bands, its interesting your talking about the death of post grunge because i think the nine black alps are going to be the next big thing here in britian, and they are heavily influenced by the post grunge flag-bearers.

QOTSA are gunna do it i think if they keep the quality of previous releases.

I think also that S.O.A.D have pretty much done it... i mean they went quiet for a while and they come back with sum heavy metal **** for us. For which i am grateful/greatful/pleased.

Yeah SOAD is prospering in a genre that until recently had gone the way of the dinosaurs.

are Qotsa part of a particular genre? and yeah, SOAD have done well to stay relevant despite nu-metal going defunct.

i'd say just a plain old new wave of rock, solely due to the fact dave grohl is in them. I cant really assign them. They sound different - probably why they are enjoying success.
