The Darkness

anyone heard some of thier stuff?

2tonelol 02-22-2004 05:20 PM

Yes it has constant airplay hear and IMO is a load of crap. It's just a pastiche of the 70's era done with tongue firmly in cheek but still crap all the same. The singer has a really high range in his voice so all the records begin to sound samey, did i mention i thought they were crap?

Edgil 02-22-2004 05:38 PM

lol they are funny though especially that video

IamAlejo 02-22-2004 05:42 PM

lol, that video is funny.

jibber 02-22-2004 07:14 PM

ya, the video is messed up. and i have to say, even if you hate them, you gotta give the guy credit for hitting those notes, it's just insane

Xarius 02-22-2004 08:35 PM

I love the Darkness!

I have permission to land...its a good CD.

Eltiraaz 02-23-2004 01:53 PM

I think they're good, but they're just doing the glam-rock thing from the 70's again. I do like them though. The lead singer is really... how do I put this lightly... ugly. And he insists on wearing cat-suits!! Oh well, I'd say overall they are a pretty good band.

riseagainstrocks 02-23-2004 06:15 PM

If you watch the video it doesn't look like he is actually going that high...

They are trying to bring back 80's hair rock and its not working...

MuzikQueen79 02-23-2004 09:17 PM

I hate them, the lead singer is stupid, he sounds like he's trying to sing like Freddie Mercury. And what's with the outfits, they look so *** and the lead singer needs to cut his hair. They suck.

banonbush 02-24-2004 02:01 PM

I don't like them, but you're right, the video is pretty damn funny. I put them as the black sheep of the whole Jet/Strokes crowd.

Eltiraaz 02-24-2004 02:52 PM

My crowd :)

Heh i'm in like 50

Rockafella Skank 03-29-2004 08:36 PM

The Darkness

They kick total ass. I just got their CD and... DAMNNNNN! I love this group. :thumb:

DJ_Jester 03-30-2004 06:19 AM

Yeah they are hilarious to me. I just think it's funny that Justin Hawkins' voice is anything but indicative of The Darkness. Did you know that the band found him when he was at a bar singing Bohemian Rhapsody kareoke? Kinda reminds me how the Smashing Pumpkins got together back in the day...

Rockafella Skank 03-30-2004 07:27 AM

Ha! No I had no idea. They're just really fun to listen to. The guy's voice is just... awesome.

Edgil 03-30-2004 08:09 AM

yeah bringin back the old school heh heh :)

winterslastbreath 03-30-2004 03:32 PM

 that guys voice makes me laugh everytime i hear. good stuff.

Eltiraaz 03-30-2004 04:33 PM

He can hit some *pretty* high notes for a guy... I think hes really ugly btw... awesome though.. I like his outlook on Rock n' Roll.. I almost bought their CD before I realized they censored the North American version.... tsk tsk

jibber 03-30-2004 08:20 PM

really, they censored u'r version? cause mine definitely isn't....anyways, ya they rock, i love this band. they always remind me of driving around with friends, cause lately it's been in the cd player every friday.

Eltiraaz 03-31-2004 01:22 PM

Well, I remember having a convo somewhere, maybe it was here... about how the darkness edited all their curse words with words that ryhme with them on the NA release of permission to land.

Xarius 03-31-2004 03:29 PM

I have that CD...they are an amazing group. Jester I heard about that kareoke thing on the radio...it was at a New Year's Eve party or something.

weird, when i bought my cd, they had the edited version and the unedited version in stock. i actually went ot the register with the edited one, and the guy said "uhh, did you know you have the edited version here?" good thing the guy pointed that out, I wouldn't have noticed till i'd popped it in the cd player and heard the rhymed words and said "what the ****?"

Eltiraaz 04-01-2004 01:28 PM

Oh, well at least they give people the choice... maybe I'll go buy it now.

gregb 04-04-2004 11:40 AM

I just saw these guys in Milwaukee. They put on a good show and have a few catchy songs. Overall I think the singers voice is both a boon and a bane.

Eltiraaz 04-04-2004 12:59 PM

hah I just learned "I Believe in a Thing Called Love" on guitar. Its soo fun to play!!

jibber 04-04-2004 04:24 PM

haha sweet. ahh i love that song, its so much fun to just sing it reallt loud and really badly with a bunch of friends. ahh good times.

Xarius 04-04-2004 09:34 PM

Some guys at my schol played it at battle of the bands in January, back when hardly anyone knew it. That was really cool.

jibber 04-05-2004 04:07 PM

^holy crap, were they able to hit the notes?

Xarius 04-05-2004 04:37 PM

yeah, the one guy is a really good singer for this kinda stuff.

He's sang Sweet Child of Mine almost perferctly, and Back in Black, and Don't Stop Believing by Journey...all really hard songs.

jibber 04-06-2004 04:07 AM

damn thats so sweet. closest thing i've ever had to a battle of the bands at my school was a talent show in junior high, one of the bands was awesome, played 2 original songs, really good sonwriters.

Xarius 04-07-2004 03:00 PM

yeah at this battle they had to play originals too. :)

Kathryn 05-08-2004 11:41 AM

good stuff, darkness is hilarious
But when did they first come out? was it the 90s? It's just that they remind me a little of Queen (VERY unusual costumes, crazy vocals and guitar ect.) so I'm wondering if maybe they're a post-Queen knock off

Funny you should mention Queen...apparently the Darkness formed after a newYear's 2000 party after the signer did a sweet karaoke of Bohemian Rhapsody.

Kathryn 05-09-2004 11:10 AM

yeah? that's really interesting. I love Queen and the Darkness because of them. Actually i heard they might be coming to Toronto (ontario Canada) this summer, the Darkness not Queen(ha ha) anyone know about their touring dates?

harakiriroll 05-10-2004 12:06 PM

aha sure

well sure if we were in the 70 and they were queen but nah sorry dude we are in the year 2004 and they are just trying to be queen so dude if u like ythe oldies go with the originals!!!

i don't think that the Darkness are trying to be Queen, maybe they were influenced by them but they are very different groups, besides there's nothing wrong with liking both.
Oh and a quick note: Queen was 80s and 90s not 70s

well just 2 full my curiosity when did queen actually start 2 play? oh yeah and thanx!!!

OmniWizard 05-12-2004 04:32 PM

No, Queen was definately 70's and 80's. They were formed in 71 and the lead singer, Freddy Mercury, died of AIDS in 91, effectively ending Queen.

whoareyou 05-13-2004 05:18 PM

Permission to land is one of the best cd's that i had heard from a new group in a long time. I saw them in concet in Houston, and man those guys put on a hell of a show. If you like the darkness then you should aslso check out the Wildhearts, they are the band thats opening for them on their tour.

northern_angel455 05-31-2004 03:58 PM

Lol the Darkness are anything but dark, but I really like Permission to Land, it makes me smile and makes me feel good. I agree Justin Hawkins is a talented singer but personally too much of that screeching grates on me! I also think their lyrics are a bit weak. But I do like them.
