About hardcore, Well, Black Flag changed a lot, it's not your typical hardcore punk. My War actually has Sludge Metal elements, and In My Head for example has this post-hardcore thing going on.
The EP's before their first album with their other singer are considered hardcore punk. I think it just sounds like Punk Rock Though, but it doesn't matter all that much.

Hardcore Punk = Minor Threat, Bad Brains, MDC, Discharge, early D.R.I, Negative Approach, Verbal Abuse, negative FX, Gang Green, Early Government Issue, Necros, early Suicidal Tendencies, Poison Idea, Circle Jerks, Agnostic Front, etc

Hilly wanted to establish a place for country music and bluegrass and blues, because he thought it was the new wave of music coming their way. Way down in the south, yes, but at CBGB? No. That's where the punk bands started. There's a movie about it with Alan Rickman called CBGB.

Dead Boys is just Punk Rock.

Music genres are already splintered off into enough different sub-genres as it is. Why complicate the matter by adding more.

I just don't see the benefit of getting so in depth on the subject.

Because Hardcore Punk is a lot less accessible than Punk Rock, for the most part. It's an extremer form.
You won't see me putting Thrash Metal and Death Metal in the same category as Heavy Metal.

I don't understand, thrash metal and death metal are heavy metal genres. Why would you be opposed to calling them heavy metal?

He means "heavy metal" in the sense of "traditional" heavy metal: Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Scorpions, Diamond Head, Saxon, etc.
